Off topic but I was looking to get a Keurig that’s good and won’t break the bank and was wondering if any of y’all had a suggestion. Thanks

There is a board for off topic subjects. It's "The Locker Room" and it badly needs more posts. This post will probably get moved there.

I'm not a fan of pod systems. We have a proper espresso machine, but we typically use an Aeropress. We have our own grinder, which IMO makes the biggest difference. You want a conical burr grinder though. The cheap blade grinders don't make consistently sized grinds. We even got a portable hand grinder so we could make good coffee while traveling.

Grind your own beans and buy a keurig cup you can put them in.

I normally use a French press for local roasted beans I buy weekly but if I’m in a huge rush I’ll put them in the keurig.

If you like using Kuerig cups, enjoy. Want be too long before the wackos that banned plastic straws in la la land (Cal) will be coming after the K cups.

They actually already make eco friendly K cups. They have a filter on the bottom, are smaller, and I can't tell the difference when using them. I tried them because they are way cheaper than the normal plastic K cups.

Using a French press takes a total of 10 minutes or so. Grind, dump it in, heat up some water, dump it in then let it sit for 8-10 minutes, push it down and then pour.

Agree if you’re going to use k cups use the biodegradable ones. They’re cheaper or about the same price, same crappy taste and isn’t nearly as bad for the environment.

Haven’t seen those. Are they readily available?

Way too much work for a cup of coffee. Also if you use it everyday you better check your cholesterol. I had been using the press for 6 months before having blood work and my total and LDL, which are always low, were high. Quit the press and numbers went back to low normal.

Use skim milk instead of Crisco next time.

You can get the biodegradeable ones on Amazon.

I drink one cup of French press when I make it. Not as much an issue with the blood pressure.

The oils from the beans get in the cup with French press. If you drink 4-5 cups a day it can raise your blood pressure.
Interesting. I probably do drink about that much coffee and exclusively from a French press. I get the beans ground fresh when I buy them. I don't have high blood pressure at all, but I do have slightly high cholesterol. It's worth it to not have to drink that Keurig crap.

Ohh i agree. Something worth watching though.

Never been a big coffee drinker, but have started to drink on the weekend when we do up breakfast. We have a Keurig, I have been doing the kcups but bought the plastic ones and am now getting bags of coffee. Glad to hear of the biodegradable ones on Amazon, will check that out.

I don't think there is a lot of difference in quality of Keurigs. As others have said, the quality of the coffee is okay, but you can get a much better cup of coffee by buying beans that were roasted in small batches and grinding them yourself. You can use a lot of methods to make good coffee if you start with good beans. From a quality coffee point of view, Nespresso is a better pod alternative than Keurig if you like espresso.

So glad I never liked coffee. Better than the health part I’ve saved a fortune during my lifetime.

I have never had a cup of coffee. Smells great. Tastes like crap. Anything with coffee i avoid.

Glad to see we didn’t let a thread about coffee go too far before complaining about California. Seems very relevant.

For those that roast their own beans, where do you source the beans and what is your roasting process?

Coffee in moderation is not unhealthy.
A bag of $4.99 Community ground coffee lasts me about 3 weeks or so and a dash of $1.79 non-dairy creamer last a good 2 weeks. I'm not spending a fortune on coffee.
