• COURSE: TPC Southwind, 7,239 yards, par 70. The St. Jude Classic’s home since 1989, Southwind winds through natural lakes, streams and ponds on a former dairy farm southeast of Memphis. Ron Prichard teamed with former U.S. Open champions Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller on the original layout, and Loren Roberts oversaw a 2004 upgrade that removed dozens of trees and replaced Southwind’s bentgrass greens with more heat-tolerant bermuda. Southwind’s par-3 11th hole draws comparisons with the famed 17th at TPC Sawgrass, requiring a short iron over water to a small island green.

• FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 500 points.

• CHARITY: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, established by the late entertainer Danny Thomas to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Since joining forces in 1970, the tournament has raised more than $30 million for hospital research.

• FIELD WATCH: Dustin Johnson, the 2012 St. Jude champion, is joined by Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson to headline the final tuneup before the U.S. Open. … Two-time St. Jude champion David Toms, who tops the all-time earnings list in Memphis, is back for his 25th appearance. … Lee McCoy, who placed fourth at the Valspar Championship as an amateur, is among a handful of new college grads set for their pro debuts. The Georgia alum is joined by Robby Shelton (Alabama) and Matt NeSmith (South Carolina). ... Philip Barbaree, who won last summer’s U.S. Junior Amateur in an epic comeback, will test himself against PGA TOUR competition for the first time.

• 72-HOLE RECORD: 258, John Cook (1996).

• 18-HOLE RECORD: 59, Al Geiberger (2nd round, 1977 at Colonial CC). TPC Southwind record: 61, Jay Delsing (4th round, 1993), Bob Estes (1st round, 2001).

• LAST YEAR: Fabian Gomez became the fifth Argentine to ever win a PGA TOUR event, using a 4-under-par 66 to pull away from Greg Owen on the final day. Gomez and Owen shared the 54-hole lead, but Gomez went bogey-free over his final 13 holes while Owen struggled to a 70. They remained tied at the turn before Gomez stuck his tee shot at the par-3 11th to set up an 8-foot birdie. Two more birdies followed on the back nine, eventually recording a four-shot victory as Owen faltered. Phil Mickelson tied for third after a closing 65, rolling home a 25-foot birdie that nearly lipped out before dropping in. That left him five shots behind Gomez, tied with four other players. Gomez joined Angel Cabrera, Jose Coceres, Andres Romero and Roberto de Vicenzo as Argentines to win on TOUR.

• STORYLINES: Johnson, who hasn't won since his heartbreaking three-putt at last year's U.S. Open, seeks to build some momentum heading to Oakmont next week. An opening 64 vaulted him to the first-day Memorial lead, though he fell back with Friday 71. ... Mickelson, a Sunday contender each of the past three years, seeks to sharpen his game ahead of the only major he hasn’t won. The Hall of Famer came to Memorial with three missed cuts in his previous four starts. … A U.S. Open berth remains available for anyone who moves into the top 60 of the world rankings after the St. Jude’s conclusion. Among those hoping to move up: Gomez and Ryan Palmer, who tied for third at Colonial.

• SHORT CHIPS: Gomez was just the sixth St. Jude winner to hail from outside U.S. shores, joining Nick Price (1993, ’98), Gary Player (1974), Greg Norman (1997) and Lee Westwood (2010). … No winner of the PGA TOUR stop preceding the U.S. Open has gone on to capture the Open. Overall, just 11 men have claimed a major the week after winning on TOUR, last done two years ago by Rory McIlroy (WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship). … Three of the tournament’s past five winners have made it their maiden TOUR victory: Harrison Frazar (2011), Harris English (2013) and Gomez.

good luck to everyone this week

Johnson
Koepka (I hate placing this burden upon a Nole.)
Mickelson
Palmer

I
On the bright side, Phil is doing well. So far anyway.

On the radio broadcast today Dennis Paulson was telling a story about when he and Phil played in December. He stated that Phil said his swing change made him feel like Jim Furyk when he was swinging the club.
thought it was an interesting comment , in that clearly the swing doesnt look like that , but that Phil made such a drastic change at 45 ( 46 next week)

and yes, nice to see him playing well

You don't pick Berger this week?

I didn't see him in the field. Damn it I'm going to stop picking the young noles because everytime I don't pick them, they tear it up. I think my picking them is too big of a handicap for them to overcome.:(

NOW you're starting to get it! :p

could be a nice week for Berger, 54 hole leader and is now sponsored by Rolex

He has qualified for the Us open next weekend. I thought for a little while that we might see Daniel and Brooks in the final pairing tomorrow.

Speaking of the open at Oakmont, I will be there.

Play suspended again this week on Sunday..weather report doesn't look promising for Sunday finish

Oakmont looks ready for next week....Graeme McDowell addressing his ball in the rough

Love how the commentators were saying some of the players were choosing less than driver on #17. If I chose less than driver on a 480 yard par 4, you can bet I'd be hitting the same club on the second shot.

They are trying to finish..you know all the players rather play in the dark than lose a day at Oakmont...

you are correct sir , they are going to make it , watching the live stream and light looks ok

speaking of looking ok, got to get me some grey golf shoes

Got to like the way Berger has kept his composure today with the delay and big names on the leader board

Enjoyable final round, even with long weather delay. This summary is all about congratulations to a fellow Nole who gets his first tour win. congratulations to Daniel Berger who after a shaky start outlasted a very talented field to claim the Fedex St Jude Classic

congratulations to this weeks PGSF winner
