• COURSE: East Lake Golf Club, 7,307 yards, par 70. The one-time home of the Atlanta Athletic Club dates back to 1908, first designed by Tom Bendelow and revamped in 1913 by Donald Ross. It’s best known as the boyhood course of Bobby Jones, who by age 11 was shooting 80 and later etched his name in history by capturing the 1930 Grand Slam. The site hosted the 1950 U.S. Women’s Amateur and 1963 Ryder Cup. The AAC relocated to the northern suburbs in 1967, leaving East Lake in the hands of 25 members opposed to the move. Revival began in 1993 when a partnership was formed to restore the club as a tribute to Jones. The TOUR Championship came to East Lake for the first time in 1998, making it the annual host in 2004.
• FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 2,000 points.
• CHARITY: The East Lake Foundation, founded in 1995 to spearhead the revitalization of the neighborhood surrounding the historic course. The foundation has spurred such projects as the Charles R. • 18-HOLE RECORD: 60, Zach Johnson (3rd round, 2007).
• LAST YEAR: Billy Horschel held his nerve against both McIlroy and fast-closing Furyk, scoring not only his second straight Playoffs win but the FedExCup trophy. Tied for the 54-hole lead with McIlroy, Horschel gained the edge with two early birdies while McIlroy took double bogey at No.6 and added three bogeys around the turn. Horschel needed a bit longer to shake Furyk, finally pulling aheadwith a birdie at the par-5 15th and 30-foot par save at No.16. One group ahead, Furyk left his approach short at No.17 and missed a 6-footer for par. Horschel’s eventual 2-under 68 was good for a three-shot victory.
• STORYLINES: Day and Spieth are assured of heading to East Lake among the top five in points, allowing them to take the FedExCup simply by winning the finale. Anyone outside the top five will need help to win the title. … Points are reset after the BMW Championship, giving everyone a mathematical chance of claiming the crown. Sharp pain in the 2010 champion’s left wrist prompted his first WD in two decades.
• SHORT CHIPS: Each of the past five FedExCup champions have won the TOUR Championship.
