The signing of Derrick Henry shows Baltimore is going to get back to running the football. Here they get a former Division II local product who made the transfer leap to the B1G. Ayedze is a road-grader who has the blocking skills to be a guard but must get stronger to stick in the NFL.

Overview​

Ayedze showed he could make the jump from a small school to the Power 5, but leaping again from Maryland to the pros might require him to get bigger and stronger to handle the rigors of playing guard on the NFL level. Ayedze has the feet and hands to play pro ball and should see his best fit in a move-based running game. His background in pass protection at tackle will be coveted by teams looking for more help bolstering the pocket at guard, but it might take him time to acclimate to the power he will see on the pro level.

Strengths​

• Sweet feet enable him to climb and redirect against movement.
• Fluid as pulling guard with a great radar for finding and securing the block.
• Consistently in position and centering up his run blocks.
• Has body control and footwork to stay connected to blocks.
• Punch looks fairly firm, and he's capable of resetting hands when needed.
• Good slide quickness to mirror spins and counters in pass pro.

Weaknesses​

• Needs to make sure he keeps pad level down off the snap.
• Will need to hit the weight room and bulk up as an NFL guard.
• Didn't look as chippy and physical after his move from Frostburg State to Maryland.
• Allowed opponents off the hook prematurely rather than finishing blocks.
• Could struggle to redirect power rushers who get into his shoulder.

Bailey is smaller in stature but runs with purpose and is not afraid to put his head down. This is a good fit as Shanahan can find ways to maximize his skills

Overview​

Short back with muscular lower body who might possess the skill set to compete for a future three-down role. Bailey is a decisive runner with the vision and burst to choose correct pathways and turn runs into chunk plays. While he can be fairly elusive, he's not a loose-hipped creator in space and doesn't appear to have a home-run gear with which to run away from the defense. He's more capable than most prospects as a pass protector and adds value as a target out of the backfield. Bailey isn't special in any one area, but he's solid in all. His three-down potential and quickness to process and burst give him a shot at becoming a productive member of a running back room.

Strengths​

• Trusts his blocking scheme and sees the field clearly.
• Hits gas instantly with decisive burst through line of scrimmage.
• Displays plus balance to spin through contact and continue moving.
• Patient glider who can steer lead blockers into defenders.
• Quick catch-to-run transition with wiggle to slip the first tackle.
• Courageous to square up and meet blitzers with good technique.

Weaknesses​

• Three fumbles over his last 254 carries.
• Running style features some wasted motion, with flailing upper body.
• Missing early run agility and creativity to escape from closing traffic.
• Hip tightness limits ability to cut at acute angles with balance.
• Missing a big second gear to scoot away from legitimate pursuit.

Transfer who is a football player, not a measurable guy. He will be a late 7th round or UDFA, but he will make a roster or practice squad.

Overview​

Bethune's linebacker play won't make it on most teaching tape, but it doesn't take much time to figure out that he's a football player. He's an inside linebacker with average size and questionable top-end speed, but he plays with reaction quickness. He'll take on blocks with aggression and plays with decent tackle strength in space. He has sound football IQ, but recognition of blocking scheme and play design can be inconsistent. He has good coverage awareness and can drag Y tight ends around the field. Bethune can be unorthodox, and he'll miss more tackles than you'd like, but he's productive, with a feel for the game that could see him land as a Day 3 linebacker with backup potential inside.

Strengths​

• Recognizes keys to avoid being duped by pre- or post-snap eye candy.
• Able to punch and stack lead blockers in the hole.
• Hits blockers and ball-carriers with the same force and energy.
• Impressive recognition and awareness in coverage.
• Quick acceleration to squeeze route breaks in man-to-man.
• Has proven capable of contesting catches and making plays on the throw.

The Rams take a bit of a throwback here in a thumper who appears destined for a role as a two-down backer. At least he should be able to provide depth and competition while participating on special teams.

Overview​

Watson is a throwback linebacker with the size, length and demeanor to handle the physical nature of life between the tackles. He plays with good diagnostic quickness and will punch and separate from most climbing blocks. Tight hips and a lack of pursuit speed seem to limit his ability to eat with solo tackles once plays flow wide or enter open space. There are too many bumpy moments on tape to expect him to hold up in coverage, but he’s better than average at disrupting when used as a blitzer. Watson’s size and production in impact categories are impressive, but athletic limitations could put a cap on his NFL production.

Strengths​

• Posted 31 tackles for loss and 21 sacks since the start of the 2021 season.
• Thuds block with heavy hands to stack and stay separated.
• Patient not to overcommit while reading and flowing to the football.
• Good feel for getting home when operating as a blitzer.
• Poised as a box tackler, leading to lower number of missed tackles.
• Squares ball-carriers with good pop-and-wrap approach.

Weaknesses​

• Posted just 35 solo tackles out of 137 total in 2023.
• Stacks blockers but is a step slow shedding them for tackles.
• Loses ground when the pursuit extends in space.
• Tight hips hinder him from sinking and changing direction fluidly.
• Coverage liability with limited athleticism and field awareness

Overview​

The evaluation for Coker boils down to balancing his pro-caliber size and ball skills against his level of competition and potential lack of NFL quickness and speed. His focus, ball-tracking and timing give him distinct advantages that other receivers lack, and his catch radius and hand strength helped him make mincemeat of Ivy League coverages near the goal line. Coker's deep speed appears to be average, so he will need to refine his route running to become better equipped to beat NFL defenders in space and open up workable windows for his quarterback. Coker is talented and productive, but the testing numbers will be huge for his draft slotting and chances in the league.

Strengths​

• Instinctive hand fighting in his release and at top of the route.
• Possesses robust ball skills across the board to win downfield.
• Fade monster with size, adjustments and sticky hands to dominate.
• Works back to the throw and is keenly aware of the sticks.
• Leverage and footwork for crisp cut-and-flatten on routes underneath.

Weaknesses​

• Must prove he can get off the line against NFL size and strength.
• Monotonous route speed is unlikely to tilt pro coverage.
• Displays small gear-down when stemming the route.
• Needs to clean up the wasted motion getting into his breaks.
• Below-average quickness with his run after catch.

With the 256th pick the Jets select Devin Leary QB, Kentucky.

With Aaron Rodgers' age and with Zach Wilson virtually certain to be traded or released, the Jets are going to choose a quarterback at some point during this draft (regardless of whose fragile ego it might hurt). Leary enjoyed a remarkable sophomore season at N.C. State (over 3400 yards passing with 35 TD's and only 5 picks) prior to later transferring to Kentucky. He looked great in the Combine throwing drills thus securing his draftability.

Overview​

Inconsistent pocket passer with slightly below-average size coming off a two-year run that seemed to kill the legitimate buzz created in his sophomore season. Leary's tape shows flashes of accuracy, touch and football intelligence, but it's not sustained often enough. He has an NFL arm with good life on his drive throws and might have potential in a play-action based passing scheme if a coach can iron out some of the field-reading and decision-making issues. Leary's receivers did him few favors, and there are enough splashy throws to make him a dark-horse prospect worthy of a late Day 3 selection.

Strengths​

• Team captain at both North Carolina State and Kentucky.
• Throws come out of his hand with good life.
• Shows ability to throw with touch between first and second level.
• Confident and decisive attacking intermediate windows versus zone.
• Accuracy takes a step up as a roll-out passer.

Weaknesses​

• Suffered through major regression since his stellar 2021 season.
• Can be wildly inaccurate outside the numbers and down the field.
• Makes too many premeditated throws rather than reading combo routes.
• Amped up and impatient, leading to hurried overthrows.
• Would benefit from a more controlled, efficient delivery.
