Dick was FSU's track coach for 21 years, he retired in 1988, he coached four National Champions and 36 athletes who won 74 All-American awards. He also helped guide the FSU cross country team to eight top 20 finishes and five top 10 showings. He is a member of the State of Florida Track and Field Hall of Fame and was a six-time Metro Coach of the Year.
