Popular bands/artists you just don’t get

Yep - and then turned into bubble gum punk. We were huge fans of Op. Ivy, Fugazi, Bad Religion

Number 1 in modern times is Bruno Mars. I think the music is awful and repetitive And it is corny as hell

Him winning best song with one of his many shallow songs over Logic's song on suicide awareness at the Grammys was a disgrace.

Dave Matthews and any soft corny rock bands like maroon 5, matchbox 20, smashmouth, Green Day , good charlotte etc is next. Music is torture for me. I hate soft rock

Mumble rap is next. I'm a hip hop head. I grew up with it in the 80s and 90s. My favorite genre is largely a joke today with some exceptions

I liked ‘King of Limbs,’ the one immediately after In Rainbows (2011ish), but it’s nowhere near as good.

I don’t remember the name of their most recent album, but I remember anxiously awaiting it’s release, then being very disappointed once I heard it.

Eh. No surprise here, totally disagree. MSP is an excellent album.

Pretty easy ranking.

1. Kid A
2. OK Computer
3. In Rainbows
4. Moon Shaped Pearl
5. The Bends.
6. Hail to the Thief
7. Amnesiac
8. The King of Limbs
9. Pablo Honey

That’s fair. But go back to Dookie, Kerplunk, 1,000 Hours, 39 Smooth, and Slappy and it’s fantastic 80s/90s punk rock.
I agree, new Green Day sold out, not a knock on them at all, but Dookie and Kerplunk were pretty good and a lot different then what we think of them now.

Ok im going to get crucified in here for this, as I know it's a lot of posters favorite bands, but I have to say Foo Fighters.

Just too poppy, bland, rehashed soccer mom, top 40 cheese. Have no originality, soul, or depth. A small step up, but similar to Godsmack and Nickelback.

Definitely Wilco and Dylan (I think you just had to be there at the time).

Kanye

Ok. Here goes. Lol.

Aerosmith
G n R
The Beatles
Bob Dylan
Grateful Dead
FFDP
Blondie

They’re all instant change station/channel immediately

And on and on and on. But I have horrible taste in music anyway.

I don't see how anyone cannot appreciate Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the words of Dalton ... opinions vary.
Like you said, opinions vary. I can totally admit Flea and the lead guitarist( don’t know if he is still with the band) are very skilled musicians. I just don’t like the sound, and Anthony is about as good as garage band lead singer.

I'm sort of surprised at the number of fellow music lovers who ALSO have never cared for Springsteen.
Agree on some others choices but I'm an addicted channel changer with wide tastes in music.
I like Ed Sheehan, like Niall Horan's Slow Hands" (Sexy!) and even Hailey Steinfeld's Let Me Go -
Oldies? Lots of 80's, Journey, Van Halen, Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
Sirius is always on in my car...

Collective Soul
Candlebox
Goo-Goo Dolls

At some point in time they were popular (or close to being popular). I can't fathom why.

Not a huge fan of the Goo Goo Dolls, but John Rzeznik is a talented dude.

I'll take your word for it. I have no idea what he does outside of making/singing music.

As a guitarist he's pretty creative. Uses a lot of alternate tunings. Has a decent voice. I dig a few GGD songs, but don't celebrate their whole catalog.

Hell yes on Aerosmith! Old stuff is great, then the 90s come along and they start putting out cheezy mall pop, cant stand them.

DFS I beseech you to crucify him and release LukefromDuke to us!

Another vote for Radiohead. To be clear, I loved their first three albums, especially OK Computer and The Bends. But with Kid A and the next two albums, breathlessly adored by critics and fans alike, I got off the bus. I tried and tried to like them but found them incredibly dull post 1997. It was weird listening to Kid A and wondering if it was a giant prank as most critics called it genius...

Wake up just before sunrise on an chilly autumn Sunday morning. Get in your car, put on Kid A and drive through your city. You may feel differently.

I celebrate Nole wins differently, but to each his own.

For me it's Rush. I'll climb from the back seat to front and fix things when that nasally voice comes on.

I've got to reluctantly revise my previously stated opinion on Kid A and Amnesiac. It pains me to do this b/c it means I tacitly agree with TripTych, a poster that I think has horrendous taste and opinions, obscenely bad people skills, and is just a genuinely unlikable individual...BUT...I've been re-listening to Kid A & Amnesiac for the past two days, just to verify that they weren't as good as I remember them...and I was flat out wrong.

Kid A has so many great songs, I don't know what I could've been thinking when I said it was terrible:
  • Everything In Its Right Place
  • The National Anthem
  • Idioteque
  • Optimistic
  • Morning Bell
  • How to Disappear Completely (one of the best Radiohead songs ever made. I had totally forgotten that was on Kid A)
Likewise, w/Amnesiac - though not as great an album from top to bottom. There are some really good tunes though:

  • Pyramid Song
  • You and Whose Army
  • I Might Be Wrong
  • Knives Out (GREAT song, IMO!)
I'd still put In Rainbows at #1, with a bullet, but can't argue those two, particularly Kid A.

Springsteen
Drake

I heard a Drake song on Sirius the other day and he kept saying “boff” instead of”both”.

That Degrassi Junior high, Canadian saying “boff” is comical. So hood.

There were are a lot of stupid people populating the Earth in the '90s?
There was a lot of great music in the 90’s. For all the good music there is always bad. Same can be said for all decades. In the 80’s for every Guns N Roses there were far more groups like Fire House.

Did you know:

At the 1992 American Music Awards, FireHouse won the award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist. They were chosen over Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

Laughable. I’m not even a Nirvana fan and it’s still mind-numbing.

I actually thought Fire House was in the late 80’s. I just know they were really bad glamour rock. Thank goodness for Nirvana and the grunge bands.

I agree, was just replying to a question asking how bands like Collective Soul and Candlebox were ever popular.
