There is a lot of talk about what our receiving corps will produce this year. Some have doubts because of the perceived inexperience and others about the depth. Reality is we have 2 thirds of our most productive WRs back ( Tate and Murray) and both our TEs returning ( Izzo and Saunders). So we really aren't that inexperienced and we have 3 other WRs (Phillips, Gavin and Campbell) that have some major upside with speed and size. Phillips got a bunch of work in the spring game, Campbell is supposed to be healthy for the fall and Gavin's potential is thru the roof.
Coming in this fall at WR is DJ Mathews and Tamorrion Terry, both of which add a different dimension.
I believe DJ will compete for playing time immediately because of his route running and explosiveness. Terry will probably RS if our front liners stay healthy and he gives us another tall athletic receiver.
Even though we have 2 very good veteran TEs we have 3 young players in 2nd yr Upshur and 2 FR Mckitty and Marshall, who have some big time receiving skills.
Not included in the considered receiving corps but will certainly be a big part of the passing game are our stable of RBs , all of which I believe can create some real problems for opposing defenses. Patrick hasn't had the opportunity to display his receiving skills due to Dalvins dominance of reps, but the big boy can catch and few corners would want a 1 on 1 matchup in open space. Than we all got to see what Cam can do during the spring game. Green has shown in the past 2 spring games that he can also catch the ball. Rasul is something of a surprise package, because of the minimum reps, but Jimbo certainly seems excited about this explosive young man. We have a few others who could be contributors also with FB Nabors , RBs Laborn, Vickers, Sheffield and White.
My assessment is that we are going to see more explosive plays this year with our WRs and an overall more productive passing game than we've seen since 2013.
What are your thoughts?
