The No. 18 Florida State softball team (18-7, 1-1) bounced back from a tough loss last night with a 4-2 victory over No. 4 Duke (21-2, 4-1) in front of a packed crowd Saturday afternoon at the Seminole Softball Complex.

The Seminoles wasted no time getting on the board as the Seminoles put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jaysoni Beachum got the Noles going with a single, and after a groundout moved Beachum to second, Kalei Harding ripped a double to the right field corner to score Beachum. Harding advanced to third on a passed ball, and Amaya Ross hit her fifth triple of the season, which ranks second in the country, to bring home Harding. Isa Torres continued the two-out rally with a double to left field for her 20th RBI of the season.

Harding hit her 52nd career double in the third inning to score Beachum to give the Noles a 4-0 lead. With that double, Harding is now second all-time in school history for career doubles, trailing only Jessi Warren.

Makenna Reid got the start for the Noles and was terrific against one of the top scoring offenses in the country. Reid retired 14 out of the 16 batters she faced in the first five innings while striking out five.

The Blue Devils got some life to start the sixth inning as they put runners on first and second with no outs. Reid re-entered for Allison Royalty and was able to limit the damage but not before Duke was able to plate two runs. Reid took the circle again for the Noles in the seventh inning and did not allow a baserunner as she sat down the Blue Devils in order to win the game.

Reid pitched a career-high seven innings and allowed just three hits while striking out five. Reid did not allow an earned run and improved to 5-0 this season and 18-0 as a Seminole.

The two teams will battle in the rubber match tomorrow at noon on ACCNX.
