I have Judge and a Henry Big Boy 45 Colt lever action rifle. Thinking about adding a Ruger Redhawk. Anyone have experience with the sidearm?

I love revolvers. I have a ruger 22 I use for target practice. I have a S&W model 55 SS 357 which IMO this is one of the best handguns ever made. BOth are very accurate smooth shooting guns. For years I was a FDLE firearms instructor back when all law enforcement still used revolvers. When the move to glocks and other similar style guns I found I was a lot more accurate with the revolver.

I hate to say anything negative about anyone's gun but IMO the judge is a waste of a lot of money. Use a .410 load and you can't hit a barn door 20' away. Use the pistol round and it has the about the same accuracy.

The Judge was a novelty gift, I have always been a shotgun guy but I do love my Henry. The Redhawk chambers Colt 45 and 45 ACP. That's why I am looking at it

My opinion on the judge came about as I was fishing with a friend of mine who brought along his judge with .410 rounds in it. There was a big cottonmouth laying on a log about 10-12' away. He shot twice and missed both times. The snake then hit the water and swam straight to the boat. Finally when it was about 2' from the boat it was close enough the spray pattern of the round finally hit him.

I see it as varmint gun when I’m in the woods. I am no great shot but I manage to hit the target fairly regularly at 10-15 yards. Do you know what 410 load your buddy was using? Any experience with the Ruger?

Not sure what load it was he was using. I know at the 10-12' range the pattern was probably 6' in diameter. The snake was coiled up on the log and every shot just seem to leave that big hole in the middle of the pattern, right where the snake was laying. I am so far removed from my gun buying days I am not familiar with the Ruger model you are looking at buying. I do know every Ruger I have ever owned or shot has been a very smooth action gun and I have had no complaints with any of them. If I were interested in a model from my experience I would not hesitate to purchase it.

I have a Bond Arms Snake Slayer 4. Like the Judge it uses a 410.

If anyone sees a Colt Cobra 38 serial #66815R let me know and I'll take it off your hands for a fair price.

My only experience with one was the time I mentioned in this post. When we got back home we set up a 4X4 piece of cardboard at 20'. I swear if it had been a smaller frame person standing there I don't think he would have had 5 pellets hit him. The gun was the 3" barrel model so that may have been the issue, I am sure the 6.5" has to be more accurate.

they also make a shell for the Taurus that has "rings" in it. I haven't tried them yet, but I bet they'd blow a hole in something.

My dad has a Super Redhawk (.44mag) and it is a fine shooting weapon. I also have the Super Blackhawk (.44mag single action) and it is a heck of a gun.

Ruger makes reliable and great shooting handguns.

I’m a “wheel gun “ guy. I’ve owned several semi-autos over the years and traded them all for revolvers. My favorite is a .357 S&W 686. Smoothest most accurate I’ve ever shot and I’ve tried a bunch of different hand guns.
