I live in a neighborhood where the elementary school, middle school, and high school are all within a 5 minute drive from any home in the neighborhood. Yet, I see parents every morning sitting in their vehicles at the bus stop with their kids waiting for the bus. If you're already there in your car, why don't you just drive your kid school? You're looking at a 10 minute round trip tops.

Makes zero sense to me. All I can think of is that they are completely lazy.

That's a great question.

Last week I saw a mile long backup on a six lane arterial at an elementary/middle school I suppose there are situations where people are avoiding something like that? I guess too some people like having a few minutes of quiet media time before they are off and running. Then sometimes bus stops can be a long or dangerous walk from home.

But what you describe is pretty bizarre.

Driving to the bus stop? Isn't the whole point of a bus stop that the bus comes to your neighborhood so you don't have to drive? It sounds incredibly lazy and/or over-protective if the bus stops are within a block or two of these people's homes.

You and I are definitely on the same page. I mean if you're worried about your kids standing at the bus stop just drive them the 5 minutes to school.

in Jax, the bus might be taking you to a magnet school on the other side of town.

I think folks do this more often when it's super cold out and they don't want their kid standing in the cold for 10-15 mins or longer if the bus is late.
