Can we opt out of their terms of service privacy wise?

Crap, "now" not "not", in the title.

This what I wrote on Gene's thread on this from earlier today ...

This is fishy.

So, I've paid for the rest of this month, yet I can't access this site's content without agreeing to Oath's terms. These terms say they can access and use my info, email, and trends as they like. I have a feeling Rivals terms are also intrusive but I've never really cared enough to read them. It's just with today's climate of data sharing disclosures (Facebook/Cambridge Analytica) this popup had some uncomfortable timing.

I keep selecting "I'll do this later". Don't know how long that will last.

If you get a pop-up from something called "Oath" when you log into Warchant it's expected. Please see the information below which explains why this is happening.

------

Oath (new name for Yahoo/AOL combined company after Verizon acquisition) is putting Yahoo and AOL users under the new 'unified' Oath terms of service. Since Rivals uses the Yahoo terms of service (TOS), this means all Rivals users will now be under the unified TOS.

In accordance with U.S. law it is required that such a change be brought directly to the user's attention. Oath is enabling a company-wide popup which will display a summary of TOS changes with an acceptance button.

This is a one-time popup for signed-in users. Once accepted, it is recorded perpetually and you should never see it again, unless Oath substantially alters the terms sometime in the future. Anonymous users will get a cookie that also prevents them from seeing the popup more than once, but if they use a different browser or clear their cookies, they'll see it again.

In addition, Rivals is required to email a notice to any active user in the last 12 months. This will happen some time within the next week or so. The email will simply mention the merging terms and offer a button to bring the user to the site, where they should encounter the popup (but only if they haven't already seen/accepted it).

Any problems, or further questions please email customer support - support@warchant.com
