Radiohead...already? Seems WAY too soon for them. I'm a huge fan of theirs but they're, it could be argued, still at the peak of their powers...too soon for them to get in, IMO.

I vote for Dire Straits and The Meters.

I'm shocked that Dire Straits & The Cars aren't in already, and surprised that several of the others are not already in.

Dire Straits has to be shoe in right?

Not sure Depeche Mode would make it nor Radio Head this time around.

Lots of great musicians and groups on that list.

Dire Straits
The Cars
Judas Priest maybe
Nina Simone awesome! Rock and Roll? Probably not.
MC5 for influence.
Until Hüsker Dü, the Replacements, the Pixies, and some of the great 80's alternative bands are in how does anyone take this yearly list seriously?

Why is it called the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and not the International Music Hall of Fame? There are musicians/groups/bands already in which are not Rock N Roll, and there will be plenty more in the future.

Bon Jovi won't get in. He has a feud going with one of the the guys that owns the hall. They won't let him in.

Agreed. Been on a Cars kick lately. Crazy amount of hits considering they really only put out a handful of albums. Can't believe the Moody Blues and Zombies haven't been voted in already. I like Eurythmics, Rage, J. Geils, but I'm not sure they're HOF-worthy. Bon Jovi is lame.

Radio Head will make it. I would like to see Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis nominated and get in.

The ongoing issue is that the few people who get to vote, vote using their personal tastes. They don't step back and consider the impact, influence or importance of the act outside of their own personal opinion.

For example, I am not a huge fan of Depeche Mode but I would certainly vote them in. My musical taste shouldn't matter.

The guy who is feuding with Bon Jovi is Rolling Stone owner/publisher Jann Wenner. He dislikes any form of hard rock music. People have had to basically strongarm him to allow Rush, Kiss, black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Queen etc. in already.

There are lots of these type of voters who have a say and do the same thing. It is essentially a joke.

The fact that Radiohead is being considered for the first time along with Judas Priest for the first time tells you all you need to know. Judas Priest is heavy metal royalty, they were forging ahead in the wake of the British punk movement in the mid 1970's and that led to the Metal explosion of the 1980's. The only thing more absurd than them not ever being nominated before is Iron Maiden still not being nominated.

Radiohead is great and deserves to be in but good gracious Priest started 20 years before them?

There is so much politics behind it. Jan loves Radio Head, so I know they will get in eventually. And look for more bands to get screwed with what happened with Steve Miller. He was shunned for years and they finally let him in. The weekend of the awards ceremony he went full Rock and Roll and told them they were a joke.

MC5 has to get in. They invented Punk.

And the Zombies invented prog rock and revolutionized the use of keyboards in rock.

It's a tough call...does a lot of hits without having any particular lasting influence get you in (Four Seasons)? Or very few hits (none for MC5, maybe three for the Zombies), but very influential? Probably both.

What about just flat out longevity? I mean, the average person probably can't name four Dire Straights songs. I'm not sure what their "hook" is for entry, but it just seems like they should be there.

How about very influential in a narrow category? Most people probably can't name two Judas Priest songs, but their one of the godfathers of metal, so it seems like they should be there.

I'd probably vote against LL Cool J. He was one of the more mainstream artists before Hip Hop was mainstream, but he didn't have a ton of hits relative all popular musicians. And I don't think he was particularly influential or groundbreaking...I would probably vote for less "popular" hip hop artists before LL Cool J. He's kind of the Bon Jovi of rap to me.

Majority on the list were/are good. But HOF good? Nope. Almost like they are thinking "Well...we have to think of someone. Who is there?"

Either stick to Rock n' Roll or change the friggin' name. Why are these people so stupid? How can you have Public Enemy, NWA, Tupac and other rap genre musicians in and call this thing the Rock n' Roll hall of fame.

There are country artists in the hall. It's never been restricted to rock and roll because that sound has many originations and offsprings. But contine on with your uneducated (and we know the basis) rant...

What's my basis?
I don't like country music however I always liked NWA, Public Enemy etc.
Point being, change the name to music HOF. What exactly did Tupac have to do with R&R?
I'll be anxiously awaiting AC/DC getting into the hip hop hall of fame...

Hip hop is just a sub-genre of rock and roll, which is really just an umbrella term for "popular" music. If you want to get so technical, rock and roll should probably only be music that sounds like Bill Haley and the Comets. I doubt the person who coined the term (Alan Freed?) could have envisioned Marilyn Manson or Gwar at the time.

Well that answers one of my questions. How them, The Cars, and Dire Straits are not first ballot I really don not understand.

Country music is very, very lightly represented in the Rock hall. There are a few rockabilly guys (Perkins, Cash, Eddie Cochran) but not much else. I don't really care; I doubt I will ever go, and don't recall ever watching one of the induction shows, other than seeing some highlights of some of the jams on youtube

RATM is the only one that I care to see in. As long as they get in, I couldn't care less about the rest of the nominees.
I'd like to see Rage and Radiohead get in, but agree wth others like hula and Eric above that groups like the Pixies and Jane's Addiction should also be in - especially over the non-rock and roll artists that are in (looking at you Donna Summer and Madonna).

Also, KISS sucks.

Van Halen has zero Europe following. In the mid 90's, VH, with Hagar opened for Bon Jovi in Europe and we're booed off stage. Bon Jovi can go abroad and still draw crowds of up to 250K, like he did in India. Like him or not, he's still a huge draw and probably does deserve entrance, but not before Motley Crue gets in, but like Bon Jovi, Nikki Sixx has told the HOF to go F themselves.

Dire Straights? Did they ever do anything besides that one money for nothing song that was only popular because Sting sang in it when he was popular?

Never heard "Sultans of Swing"? Guitarist is one of the most underrated in the history of rock.
No, just watched it on youtube though. Ok riff. Don't recognize any of their stuff though. Is this like a critic's band or something? They don't have any real hits that I can tell...

Not really. More a band for discerning and knowledgeable rock fans. Mark Knopfler is a guitarist extraordinaire.
