We can talk about the Oline talent and experience until the cows come home, but until we make an adjustment in scheme or protections I just dont see it ever coming with Jimbos offense and Trickets modified zone blocking scheme. We currently rank 93rd in the country with sacks allowed after 3 warmup games. Here is how the last 5 years before this have gone:
2015 - 93rd
2014 - 42nd
2013 - 82nd
2012 - 76th
2011 - 112th
2010 - 69th
It took a heisman caliber QB who had amazing ability to stretch the field to be able to overcome long down and distance situations that we get in because of sacks. Is Golson that type of QB? I think the jury is still out. what I do know is that this trend cant continue because it puts the team at a major disadvantage. Is it possible to overcome this, well yes our record the past 5 years proves that.
Im not trying to blame anyone for this as I think Trickett is an exceptional line coach who gets the most out of his lineman, but I also think his style would be more suited for an Auburn, Arizona or even Oregon type of system. I really hope we start more man blocking schemes as the zone scheme we continue to run completely eliminates our size. If you watch the play were golson has to pull a houdini to escape a safety Are completely whiffs on a cut block and allows a free rush. Why in the world is a 330lb G cut blocking on the 3 yard line???
