Watching the news this morning and the security for the SB was talked about. This has to cost a fortune for the federal government. Bringing in tons of equipment, every car will be scanned, national guard brought in, federal agents from all over the nation being sent there, etc. Now I understand and believe the federal government should provide protection and security for its' citizens; however this is a much larger scale than typical. I would also assume there are other events where this level of security is provided. So the question is does the NFL pay for this, does Minn? The NFL is a multi billion dollar organization, that doesn't pay taxes already surely they write a check for this.

I would think that unless the NFL requested that the federal government provide security, then none of the cost are on them.
The federal govt has a choice whether it wants to use its resources to fortify an event of Super Bowel's magnitude. When you consider the scale, visibility, symbolism, and wealth of the individuals in attendance it makes sense that the govt decides to spend extra resources on ensuring a safe event.
I do get the premise though that the NFL is already a tax dodger and subsequently the beneficiary of millions of dollars of free security at its events. It rubs me the wrong way, the whole organization is full of (and predicated on) old guys intent on extorting the public but the gov't does need to make sure events like this are safe.

Minneapolis/St Paul covering security costs has to get built into their pitch for hosting the SB, doesn't it? The NFL wouldn't take a chance on ever having to cover any of that cost when they can get it in writing that someone else will pay for it.
In my opinion events like this that take in a lot of cash should fork over a percentage for security costs. So should NASCAR, etc.
