The Florida State women’s basketball team (21-6, 11-4 ACC) defeated Pittsburgh 69-55 Thursday night at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
Makayla Timpson led the Seminoles with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. Timpson broke her own single season program record for blocks (88).
Carla Viegas contributed 15 points, shooting five three-pointers, while Sydney Bowles added 14 points that included a perfect 8-of-8 showing at the free throw line.
Malea Williams led with 10 rebounds, as the Seminoles secured 46.
Florida State started out with back and forth scoring against the Panthers (11-17, 3-12 ACC), concluding the first quarter with a tie at 12-12.
In the second, the Seminoles came back strong, going on a 14-0 run led by Timpson, Viegas, Raiane Dias Dos Santos and Bowles, strengthening a lead to 28-26 to wrap up the half.
With the teams trading leads to start off the third, Viegas gave the Seminoles momentum, by hitting three three-pointers in the span of five minutes, helping FSU pull away. The Seminoles maintained the lead at 49-42 heading into the fourth.
Florida State extended its lead with 18 points in the fourth quarter. With an early shot by Amaya Bonner and a three by Viegas, The Noles finished the game 69-55 with six scorers.
This Sunday, Florida State will go on the road to face No.20 Georgia Tech (21-6, 9-6 ACC) in Atlanta at 4 p.m. on the CW.
