The No. 19 Florida State women’s outdoor track and field team began the 2024 NCAA East Regional Preliminary Championships with six Noles earning spots in quarterfinals.

Alexandra Webster, Tyra Wilson, Dajaz DeFrand, Shenese Walker, Liana Tyson and Suus Altorf advanced to the next round, which will take place on Saturday.

Webster started the day cruising to a heat win in the 100-meter hurdles, claiming the fourth seed for Saturday with a time of 12.91.

Wilson claimed the fourth qualifying spot of the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.45. Ava Klein also competed, placing 37th at 59.30.

“Alexandra and Tyra looked in peak form,” FSU track and field head coach Bob Braman said.

Three sprinters advanced to the 100m quarterfinals, leading with DeFrand seeded sixth at 11.14. Walker added a time of 11.25, placing 10th. Tyson claimed the 23rd spot at 11.42. Kaniya Johnson nearly missed the final qualifying spot by 0.01, placing 25th with a time of 11.45.

“It was nice to see the sprint posse qualifying three to the next round, “added Braman.” It was great to have Shenese healthy and flying again.”

Altorf moved on in the 1,500, placing 14th with a time of 4:14.85.

“Suus had a really easy automatic qualifier as well,” said Braman. “She looked controlled the whole way.”

DeFrand concluded the evening with a fifth-place finish in the heats of the 200, advancing with a time of 22.70.

Tori Carroll competed in the long jump, placing 21st with a mark of 6.11m (20-½). Skyler Reynolds followed in 44th at 5.61m (18-5).
