of the season, taking into consideration we've already had a bye week, here are some things I've noticed. I guess you can call it constructive criticism and I know some on here will knock me, but it is what it is.
First things first, I've watched 3 full games, and one full drive (wouldn't you have guessed it, BC) so I've paid attention.....
-What are we doing on defense? Yes, I get that some will point to the numbers and points we've given up as indication that we are great on defense but after yesterday I beg to differ. Wake controlled the pace of the entire game yesterday.
-Going back to last year, I've said that my problem with our defense is that I couldn't tell you what our defensive philosophy is. We are more reactive than proactive. Our DBs literally sat 10 yards off the receivers. And still we get no pressure.
-A few things on offense. We know what we have in Cook. That guy breaks runs whenever he feels like it. He's explosive. We need him on offense. His presence alone is something to be respected by the defense.
-Our line is still trying to get its stuff together. We are having so much issues on offense because we have a new line and when someones not missing an assignment, a receiver is dropping a pass, or the quarterback is missing the mark. We lack continuity on offense and it's very frustrating.
-At the quarterback position, you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone. Now that I'm watching Golson this year, I appreciate the term "arm strength" a lot more. Last year James would zip the ball into tight windows. You can see the difference in his throws and Golson's. Sometimes Golson's throws labor to get to the receivers and thereby gives the defensive back that second they need to get in better position to break it up...
-Aguayo has been Aguayo. I will say we've almost broken a few kickoff returns wide open so that's good.
Anyways, those are some of the things I've noticed. I am very nervous about the game next weekend. UM is very capable of beating us and right now based on what I've seen from FSU, I'm slightly leaning towards UM because we know that their offense is capable of scoring. Our's has yet to sustain that.
