So I finally watched 'Arrested Development'

Actually, I'm just about to finish Season 4 and have a few episodes left. I love satire so found the show to be hilarious. I don't know why I've never sat down and watched this until now but I'm glad I did. They are all a bunch of idiots but I think my favorite character is 'Buster' and just behind him is 'G.O.B'.

I also can't believe the stuff they got away with on that show. Everyone is ripe for parody so maybe that's why. But it's still about the closest thing to "Blazing Saddles" as it could get nowadays. Everyone's so damn sensitive anymore and has mostly lost the ability to laugh at themselves.

I'm interested to see how Season 5 turns out. I think I'd have to watch the series completely about five times to get all of the inside jokes and callbacks. Good stuff.

Yep, it's a show that rewards re-watchers. So many subtle jokes that build on previous seasons or future seasons that you may not catch first time through.

Season 4 was hard to watch. I'm not sure I actually made it all the way through. I think it was because the way they had to shoot around everyone's schedule. The fact that it was made at all is a testament to this guy's (?) determination.

Another problem I had with season 4 is my own inability to follow everything and keep up with the changes, especially with their dad.

You definitely have to watch it a second time. As good as it is, it's BETTER the second time. You miss stuff the first time, but even beyond that, there are jokes that aren't even jokes UNTIL you watch it a second time and know what happens.

I agree, while there were some great moments, the fourth season didn't really work for me. I'm sure it was because of the shooting schedule, but it was also I think because the episodes were too long. I think they would have benefited greatly by cutting that 4-5 minutes. The show is as dense as anything that's been on TV, and packed a lot into 23 minutes as it was.
