So when you win 1 Billion dollars

1.6 bil. Wow. Seems like they should break that up in to $300 million chunks and let more folks win.

Buy Mexico Beach?

I saw it rolled over, with payout expected at $1.6 billion now.
The prior immediate payout was $565 million.
Would anyone prefer the upfront payment of 1/2 the award over the 29 annual payments?

With the recent history discount rate, except for a self-awareness of a complete lack of control when it comes to spending, I think that everyone would prefer the cash option.

I always wanted one of these:

From a time value standpoint, it's always better to take the lump sum up front, unless you think you're going to lose all your money in investments.

Call my accountant, attorney and financial advisor. I would call in sick to work so not to draw attention. One thing is certain, my primary residence would not be in DeFuniak.

So a dirt crosswind airstrip ain’t good enough for ya?

I never think about these things, but was thinking about this one.

I think I'd probably set aside enough to stop working for sure, and buy a few properties...places I might like to vacation, places I might like to eventually live. Honestly, I'm not at all sure I would move anytime soon. I'd set enough aside to be able to travel significantly and definitely never have to work again.

I'd want to set enough aside for my kids and future generations that they would never be at risk of financial distress, but not so much that they basically become trust fund kids or draw the worst of the worst gold-digging partners or hangers on. I would like them to have the security of knowing that say, my grandkids can go to any college they get into, or my kids could start a business and there would be backing for it, or could drop to one income when their kids are little, and that they'll never be wiped out by an illness. But I would still want them to need to live normal lives with normal responsibility.

I don't know how you set that up with limits, etc...but I'd want them to just kind of live like normal "really wealthy" people that we all know...but not like that ultra level Trump kids or Kennedys.

Then I think I would take the bulk of it and figure out one issue that a few hundred billion dollars could really legitimately make a difference in. I don't see myself just throwing it all toward cancer research or homeless charities or something, although I'm sure it would be helpful. I'd want to find something that I could "fix".

Not saying it would be this, but for example, there is a massive amount of backlog in DNA testing throughout agencies...primarily law enforcement, where there are literally criminals who walk free for a decade because the DNA doesn't go tested for years. There are unidentified bodies, and loved ones looking for missing persons, that can't be tied together because it's just not a priority to be processed. Not talking about months, but YEARS of delayed justice or answers.

It's a real problem, one that few know or care about, but something like that seems like something a few hundred million dollars could make a real dent in, between grants to create and modernize crime labs throughout more jurisdictions, and some well funded lobbying to get support for these things in state budget.

I think I'd basically want pretty much the same lifestyle as if I had won two million dollars. Much more than that, and I think you're just talking about headaches...managing foundations, tons of personnel working for you, having to shield yourself from the world. I have no interest in having to manage and protect an empire to deal with my interests. That would be worse than a real job I think.

Clean underwear

You know you're not in high finance
Considering second hand underpants
Check your mind, how'd it get so bad?
What happened to those other underpants you had?
Look in your pockets, haven't found a cent yet
Landlord's on your balls, "Have you payed your rent yet?"

For 604 million, you could buy every combination of numbers. My luck there would be more than one(me) winner.

I would pursue my lifelong dream of cornering the Chitlins market.

This got me thinking about how long it would take to buy every combination. I ran some numbers and if you could get every combination in Mega Millions buying a ticket every second, it would take you over 9 1/2 years to buy the tickets.

There was a cool article on it yesterday. It could be done but the logistics make it impossible. Buying the tickets requires an army, and if one guy drops his envelope you risk missing the jackpot. Even if you get all the combinations someone else could win and you have to split the jackpot.

The article said a guy in Virginia did it in the early 1990s. He got a consortium of investors, had a bunch of computers to print all the combinations and won the jackpot. After that they changed rules to require cards to be filled out by hand ( or quick pick).

If one were to win, what is the standard tip you are supposed to pay the person who sold you the ticket?

As far as what I would do, I have no idea. I'd prolly go on a Brewster's Millions 2 week spree and then look at buying a new house, something with more garage space for the could of cars I'd buy. Would give work 2 week notice and be out. Expect to throw a big party for friends / family. Get my folks a new camper.

Don't think I'd want to move, like the area and the schools are good. Want to travel more, but would only be summers, again, keep kids in school and life as "normal" as possible.

No sure what i'd do for work. But I'd want something to keep me busy. Pay myself an allowance and invest with multiple advisors to spread it out.

One ticket in SC hit all the numbers. Plus 36 $1M winning tix. Sheesh!

I sincerely hope that the big winner is someone adversely affected by Florence and really needs it.

From my understanding, in SC you aren't required to reveal your identity, so we may never know who actually won. I think they specify where it was sold, but that could still be anyone. Heck, I was driving through SC yesterday on my way back from the Metallica concert in Charlotte on Monday night. So, technically it could be me even though I live in GA...by the way I didn't stop to buy a ticket so it isn't me.

I'd stay in my current house.
I'd buy a farm
I'd buy a condo on the beach
I'd buy a fishing boat that can handle day trips off shore.
I'd start a 5013c dedicated to philanthropy
I'd give a few million to my immediate family members
The rest I'd put in a trust and live off the interest

Form there I would sleep peacefully for the rest of my life and spend as much time as possible with my family.

I heard yesterday that after all the craziness and lines that still only 75% of the possible combinations would be purchased.
