So who has downsized/relocated when kids went off to college

I was being sarcastic. I don't think its anecdotal.

I thought I started late with kids... I like Steamboat, but thats a long winter. Retire at 52?, man I wish that was even an option I could consider.

Where is the humble brag thread, we need to bring that back. :)

Part of me wishes I would have had him sooner, but life would be a lot different than it is now. I've been lucky all around.

Leave HHI? That place is phenomenal and my target for retirement. During next housing bubble burst the wife & I will be purchasing in HHI. Should have done it in 2009-10.

It’s a remarkable testament to the Fed’s steady financial leadership that people plan major purchases around the boom/bust cycle.

It is a great place and all but very expensive and crazy hot/humid 4-6 months a year. Although if coming from NY the money you save on taxes would be a fortune.
Main goal semi-retire at 60 and have a place in the mountains. Help kids get ahead in life as early as possible. Reduce stress and spend time traveling.

I am about to do this. Our youngest is headed to FSU this summer and fall. Our place in Florida is rented through the year so we will likely stay somewhere in the St. Pete area Oct-Dec until the tenants leave then move in. We already have a renter for our place in CO. We want to keep it for a couple years and then will probably sell.

It will be a big change coming in as a CO native but it's been our plan for many years. Crazy to think the time has come. Now I just have to work on the minor detail of finding a join in FL so I can afford to execute this plan.

What's he/she studying?

Eh if you build in the mountains you need the high ground, you want a water source nearby and the ability to put a basement/bunker under your house that is self sustaining is just smart. People can make fun, but I bet those in hurricane destruction places wish they had power, water etc.; I bet those in places roads were closed for 2 weeks wish they had the same.
Although the comments are good, so please continue.

A lot of natural freshwater on Hilton Head Island or do you have a desalination plant in your back yard?

It sounds like you live in a nice place and I would enjoy it a few more years and let the property value continue to appreciate.

Ha ha. It is nice and I am by no means complaining. Just not a beach guy and as I get older no one is going to want to see me in my speedo; although at 52 I still rock it with socks and sandles. Grew up in Miami so the beach hasn’t been a big deal for me in a while.
I do have a solid plan for the zombie apocalypse. Blow the bridge and then start forming my kingdom. I think I will call it imtotallynotrangernole

Fijimn,

Here's to you. Plan for the worst, and hoping you're pleasantly supersized.

Couple other things Fiji:
1) Current pics of wife
2) Pics of her mom in her late 50s/early 60s, so we can gauge what wife will look like when we're hitting on her at your wake.

Marine Sciences. We just got back from orientation (and the debacle of the regional) this week. He starts the Summer C session in a couple weeks and then has almost a month off then back for the fall.
Well if he needs anything while here in Tallahassee or just needs a Sunday meal, we are happy to assist.
