Heading to Isle of Palms in August with my wife and two other couples. We are between the ages of 36-42, with 5 kids between us, ages 2.5 - 7. My wife will also be 7 months pregnant.

We are flying into Charleston and may spend a day/night there after renting a car. Any suggestions of things to do in the area that can accommodate our group?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I grew up there and am back for business every couple of months. Charleston is a great and world class city. That said, August with that group will be absolutely miserable. Skip it. Get out to the isle of palms and the beach. Great restaurants on Sullivan’s island which is close to you my favorite is the obstinate daughter. Rent someplace with a pool. You will thank me later.

Thanks man, I appreciate the advice. We have a place with a pool already thats a couple of blocks from the beach on Isle of Palms, so thats covered. Always planned on it being more of a pool/beach vacation than anything else.
Any other recommendations for food? Things to do with the kids at night?

Not going to be a ton of stuff to do at night with the kids. There are a couple of off island put put courses if you want to give those a try, but its really all about the beach. And I suspect that the kids will be wiped after being at the beach and in the pool all day. I normally stay on Sullivan's when I am there, but the Acme Low Country Cafe and the the Boathouse are good places with a beach environment. Poe's tavern and High Tyme, both on Sullivans are also fun and good. Poe's more for the family, High Tyme and the Obstinate daughter for the adults. The SC coast (with the exception of the horror that is Myrtle Beach) is the sleepy south on a beach. Enjoy.

Oh, one other thing you need to know. Alcohol is not permitted on the beach. They will absolutely ticket you. That said, I have never once had anyone look in my cooler, never. Pour your beer into an insulated cup and you will be just fine (as long as you aren't acting crazy). But an exposed beer (or wine or whatever) will be a big headache.

Folly Beach just east of Charleston is very nice. There is s fantastic restaurant there called the Lost Dog.
