I'll chime in (Get it??) by saying there's no way to satisfy your munchies more inexpensively than the Bell's dollar menu.
Not too far off, John:

Not for me...The closest Taco Bueno to me is 500 miles away.Cheaper and better than Taco Bell. Winning
That's amazing that you had to drive that far to get to a Taco Bell in a good-sized city like that. Just goes to show that their rapid growth is a relatively recent phenomenon.anyone that lived in Tampa in the 70's and 80's? Best Mexican? restaurant ever was the Mexican Burro on Gandy Blvd.
I discovered the gem just as I was about drive 20 miles to a Taco Bell in St Pete... There was a Mexican Burro right at next to I-4 at Dale Mabry. Never went to Taco Bell again. The restaurant moved to Gandy Blvd from there.
When it closed it was like "a death in the family" to those of us that loved it.
Everything was home made and there truly was a difference between the Tacos, Tostadas, Tamales, chile releno and enchilada.
Cheese Dip, Chips, bean dip and salsa were gratis. Guacamole was extra. They had a thing called a cheese crisp which was topped with Jalapenos.
At that time in the early 70's that Taco Bell was the only one in the entire Bay area. It actually was pretty good but didn't compare to the Burro. Taco bell certainly has grown but their Class D beef keeps me away. I occasionally visit Tijuana Flats which is OK.That's amazing that you had to drive that far to get to a Taco Bell in a good-sized city like that. Growing up in Panama City/Callaway, we had two awesome inexpensive and quick Mexican joints that are closed now: D's Oyster Bar & Mexican Restaurant and Taco Tex.
Actually I am in Santa Fe, NM a lot and there are 2 taco bells there and they are always packed. It was the first time I ever went into a restaurant and noticed I was the only white guy. Those hispanics seem to really love it too. And there are plenty of other options there.
