and the Mets promote him to AA today. Mark it down, he will be in the majors this year, no matter how much he sucks. I don't know why the Mets don't just make him a mascot.

If he continues a 1-18 type streak he won't sniff the majors. MLB isn't a place where gimmicks are on display...

I decided to start calling him “hat trick”. He’s struck out 3times every time I’ve seen him play.

The decision to start him in AA was made last year though. He’s a great motivator with great work ethic. The Mets want him around their younger players. He will likely be moved to AAA around the All Star break.

The Mets have made a lot of money having him in the organization, and there is clearly a market for him. Nothing wrong with that.

Hmmm. I guess I just don’t see that at all. I would think a near 31 year old man-child, who does not deserve to be on the team at all except for his cult like following from his college football days (now 10 years gone by) would be a huge source of irritation for some of those players. Pretty sure this decision was based on jersey and ticket sales, and not how nice and hard working he is...
He has a large and rabid following based on his boyish good looks and his outspoken and I think genuine Christianity. A lot of people are going to be crushed when he comes out of the closet.

The same Mets that were fighting to get Bartolo Colon (post Braves disaster) back last season. I think some of these MLB programs are pissed off at their ownership and try their best to waste as much money as possible.

I know if I was a player on his team, trying to make it to the bigs or at least win whatever title my league gives I wouldn't appreciate some guy who is that bad getting a roster slot. Remember the rest of his team doesn't have a ton of money from all the other stuff they did prior to being in the minors and the other players are trying to make it. Whether they have a shot or not this is their livelihood currently. To me it would be the same if the coach was playing his son because he can, regardless of how it effects the team.

There will be some significant backlash among the real baseball people in the organization if he gets promoted over a more worthy player. It’s one thing to be on a minor league roster, it’s another to take up a spot on the 40 man big league roster all to sell a few extra tickets in Sept. Not to mention a late season call-up for some 27y/o career minor leaguer is a big deal financially wheras Tebow presumably has millions in the bank.

Compared to players at that level, he actually isn't that bad. He hits A level pitching decently and believe it or not, doesn't really hurt that team. It may be different for him at AA. He did not do well against MLB pitching though and may not have enough time to figure it out before he starts to decline physically.

I’m no Tebow fan but how is he a “man-child”? The dude was wildly successful at building an extremely valuable brand.

Let's be honest....he's a nice guy and that's about it. If he played during the 90's I seriously doubt he would have even see the football field. He was in the right place at the right time...FSU was way down, UM was down, Tenn has sucked since Fulmer left, Bama was just getting started...ect.....

I'm not certain how much he had to do with building it rather than simply riding it. If he'd been smart, he'd have stayed in broadcasting and tried to grow a career there where he was becoming better. This baseball thing may be his dream, but it's just ridiculous.

At this point he's simply a marketing gimmick like any other minor league marketing gimmick. They'll do whatever they can to get people in seats and he does that.

Don’t overlook how poorly he was rated defensively and on the base paths. Those things matter a great deal these days. He was slightly below league average at the plate but way below average everywhere else.

Have you seen the Mets A team play? I've seen high school teams with better fundamentals. I'm not arguing he is good by any means, but not the worst on that team. His OF play is terrible at best and looks like a Little League kid when a fly ball is hit. Google the Domingo Ayala video on Tim Tebow. He hits the nail on the head with it.

I can't see any way he develops the skills to read balls off the bat soon enough to make it before he starts to deteriorate physically. His base running is not good, but the Mets coaches said he's very fast, just doesn't get good jumps yet, and may never.

I don't begrudge the guy chasing his dream, and it's not all his fault that the media has turned him into a sideshow. But he's becoming a Kardasian of the sports world...famous because of PR and not because of talent or performance on the field. I think he's a genuinely nice human being and a very competitive athlete (he sure kicked our ass more than once), so it seems like all this would become embarrassing to him at some point.

I think he enjoys the spotlight more than he is embarrassed by his level of play.
