Hilarious, campy, stupid, over the top and makes you laugh the entire time. Anyone else see it?

Melissa McCarthy is her usual self which of course complete craziness. I will say that she may need to do another kind of character eventually, but for now she is box office gold.

I haven't, but you aren't the first I've heard this from. I love these kind of movies. I'll have to check it out for sure!

i find Melissa McCarthy about as funny as hot sauce in the eye

hot sauce in my eye or someone else's eye?? One is clearly hysterically funny a one is not.

Noticed that this has a 95% rating on RT, and just simply refuse to believe it is even remotely close to being that funny. The previews aren't even mildly funny, which even Grown Ups 14 or Paul Blart 4 will give me a perk of the lips.

The Jerk has an 84% rating on RT, and I'll jump off a frickin cliff before MM in Spy is funnier than Steve Martin in the Jerk, because I just don't want to live in that world.

McCarthy is solid as a secondary or tertiary comedic character, not great, just solid; she cannot carry a movie as the main IMO.

Good example was her role in Bridesmaids. That's what suits her.

Melissa McCarthy had a small bit role in the 1999 film "Go" and she played the exact same character in that movie that she does in every other movie she's in. Female version of Seth Rogen - funny in small doses but, we get it already.

I'd say female Kevin James instead of Rogen.

It definitely is a wait till it comes on HBO type of movie.

Most all slap stick comedies are better to watch at home than the theater, especially when you expectations are set high. I remember laughing my ass off when seeing Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, and Bridesmaids. I can't recall another movie that had me laughing that way when seen in a theater for the first time....oh, maybe Tropical Thunder did. I still love that movie.

Please don't put There's Something About Mary in the same category as Meet the Parents and Bridesmaids or TT.

She hasn't really had much opportunity to be the Lead. The times she has, have resulted in pretty good box office takes........which is really all that matters in Hollywood. The only movie I've seen her in where she was the lead, was Tammy. Not going to win any Oscars, but was fairly entertaining. Sometimes "solid" can carry a movie. I think she's a good actress.

She was the main in Tammy, Spy, The Heat, and Identity Thief. All of which looked horrible. I wouldn't call four movies not much opportunity.

I haven't seen St Vincent, but want to, and it seems like she's a secondary character in that one. But she's had other small/bit roles in many other movies where she's solid.

You're basing her "Lead" abilities on previews. Fair enough, I guess.

Oh, you know it just happened! SaM was the first of all these types of movies to come out...they paved the way Rhino!

Something About Mary was hilarious. Period.

Agreed, that's what I'm taking umbrage with, TSAM is significantly funnier than Meet the Parents (I thought this movie was overrated and pretty blah) and Bridesmaid (while funny was extremely overhyped) and Tropic Thunder is funny but not on the TSAM level.

Her role in the movie "The Nines" was a wee bit different than her over the top campy roles.

I thought you meant the opposite....TSAM is the funniest of them all, I still like all the others too though.

The wife and I saw it last weekend. It was humorous. I don't go into these kind of films looking for an Oscar winning performance. Just want to be entertained. Spy accomplished that.

St. Vincent was a really good movie and she did very well there.

She has range, she can do more than the Tammy thing. But when she does the Tammy thing, I don't have a lot of interest.

And that's what I had in mind when I made the Kevin James comparison, which in hindsight isn't that fair. The Tammy character is definitely a female Kevin James to me though.

To quote Tommy, "I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it."

Rotten Tomatoes says: Tammy - Critics: 23% Audience: 37%

Those are not good scores.

But how else does one establish which movies they want to see and think they'll like or not? Do I really have to watch all the Paul Walker movies to know he was a chitty actor? Because I'm not doing that. You can't make me. Paul Walker is a horrifically bad actor, and I can glean that from the previews.

I know I'll get rode, but The Heat made me laugh on more than a few occasions.............Tammy though sucked, big time.

Spy was just as funny as the first time I saw it when it first came out and was originally titled "Go". If Melissa McCarthy and Adam Sandler made a movie together, it would be called "Go, Happy Gilmore". As for both Sandler and McCarthy, please go, just go already.

I think she's a very talented comedic actress. She has been impressive on Saturday Night Live as far as what she can (and is willing) to do. Agree she was great in This is 40.

For me personally, a little Melissa McCarthy goes a long way, but admittedly I've never seen her in one of her full lead movies. I would definitely consider seeing Spy based on the good reviews, and what little I've heard of it, the character sounds interesting and not just the same old nut job she plays so often.

I get the impression, maybe unfounded, that's she's said yes to a lot of stuff to capitalize on her fame, thinking that it's pretty bizarre and unprecedented for someone like her to become a "star". I wouldn't blame her a bit for taking every paying role as long as it lasts, but hopefully she's had enough staying power to pick some better projects.

I've got nothing but good will for Melissa McCarthy.

Somewhat off subject, but I think that there have never been more truly funny women in entertainment than there are now. It seems like we've reached a sort of post-feminist place in comedy where women are able to be funny in a lot of ways with their own voice. It's hard for me to imagine how people could be so worked up over this new Ghostbusters, they'd rather see Ackroyd, Murray and Ernie Hudson stumble around. The women starring in this one are pretty hilarious...more funny than Ackroyd or arguably Murray have been in at least 20 years, in my opinion.

Maybe I'm less than upset because...Ghostbusters isn't that great.
