Thirty Years Ago

He was at what was the bar that existed before the Phyrst....but on the same piece of property. I was a freshman the following August...I believe it was Sherrod’s....

Saw a documentary on the Green River serial killer a few days ago...Bundy called the lead detective on that case from prison and gave him a tip that almost led to an earlier arrest....

Anyhow, good riddance to bad rubbish....and to this day....when I’m in town....whenever I drive down Jefferson....and I know it’s 40 years later and it’s totally illogical....the Chi O house still creeps me out a bit.

I didn't know that about it being called Sherrod's.
Yeah I get creeped out as well still.

...and now my daughter is a freshman...living in Southgate Campus Center...the dorm on the site of the Phyrst...

My daughter lived in Southgate and her room literally overlooked the back patio of the Chi O house. I chose not to tell her the history but she found out and blamed every cold or upset stomach on some evil aura on the site.

Had many epic times at the Phyrst. My brothers band played there before I started at FSU.

I remember a tv movie about Bundy back in the 80's. Mark Harmon did a helluva acting job in that, he gave it a creepyness factor of about 8.

Spent so much time in that place (The Phyrst) but don't have a single picture from any of it. (early '80's so no smart phones)

Wish I could locate some pictures of it on the inside...just to help in remembering how it looked.

I remember it as being far too small inside for the amount of people that would show up for specials. But that was probably due to "bladder bust" . I did not go there very often to be honest. I will never forget their sign on the day Old Sparky went off. They had "Bundy Fries" on special that day. The pc crowd of today would have protested on behalf of that murderer and damned the business owners I'm most sure of.

There are a few Google images out there...unbeknownst to me there is still a Phyrst at Penn State...

Thought it was Silver Dollar Saloon before?
I believe Silver Dollar (that has a meaning), Sherrod's, then the Phyrst. May have the first two crossed. He was drinking in the bar the night of the attack. He always drank heavy to lower his inhibitions. Even the girls in there said he was acting weird. He asked one girl to dance, and she joked to her friends she was going to dance with an ex-con.Then he went to Dunwoody (apt no longer there because of the parking garage) where he attacked more girls although they survived. One survivor was a ballet dancer who was so severely beaten, she could no longer dance. Resides in Mobile today. He defined evil.

The Phryst was across the street from the Sweet Shop? It was before my time, but I thought it was on Pensacola for some reason

Isnt the Chi O house on sorority row on park and southgate on Jefferson ?

I had to google his name. I guess living in a cave keeps you out of touch.

I remember the local morning radio guys in Jax saying everyone should turn off their lights/etc. so there would be plenty of electricity. Someone called in and corrected them. Use more electricity so the bastard takes longer to fry.

This premiered today on Netflix and is one of the best documentaries on Bundy I've ever seen. Weird seeing all theses folks I know in the LEO community when they were young.

https://www.netflix.com/title/80226612
Opened with a shot of Gene Revell .

My inlaws and outlaws (On right)

It took me a long time to watch anything with MH in it after that show (The Stranger Beside Me). I still say it was one of the best acting jobs ever on a TV show. NCIS is my favorite show but I could not stand to watch it for the first few years it was on.

A lot of my issues was because I had met Margaret Bowman. I was dating a girl who was friends with her and we double dated with her and her BF a couple of times. I can't say I actually knew her other than just as acquaintance. I saw the girl I was with a few weeks after the murders and she told me then it was the Margaret we had doubled dated with. Still was like a kick in the stomach just to know someone who had to endure such a thing.

It’s a great doc on Netflix. I knew a decent amount about him but he really was the true definition of a sociopath. Very well spoken and charismatic. The court room footage was really interesting and it’s absolutely insane he was able to escape twice! Really if he had been more careful they might not have ever caught him.

I never knew he had a daughter!
