Going to Ft. Polk LA 2X in the next month. About 10 days per visit. Looking for things to do and exciting places to see. Haven't been there in over 25 years and the last time I was there the only really exciting thing I did was a naked door check down the main drag.

Never been to that area other than one time that we drove through it to get from Lake Charles to Shreveport. But there's a lot to do within about 2.5 hour drive as you've got Lafayette, Lake Charles and a lot of Acadiana within 2 hours or so.

Yep I am an advisor. Lucky for me I have only had to go once and that was with my SF team decades ago, so we had a little freedom. This trip not so much, since I am on someone else's schedule. If I get to the gym once a day the trip is a success.

There is not a lot of excitement in that area. Couchatta Casino is about 45 minutes south of you. Toledo Bend Reserve is nice for outdoors and fresh water fishing. Alexandria is the closest "big town"

Cool. One of my buddies I was commissioned with back in the day is at JRTC (Hanley). Some of us from our commissioning class are getting together a week from Friday and he will be there so I can ask him then for some recommendations if you are going to Ft. Polk in October or later.

Fly to Alexandria Friday, spend a couple of days there and then off to the box. I am there till Oct 3 and then back again a few days later for a week or so.

Ten days? Man, that's a lot of protein shakes.

I know right. The good thing is we have a rotating schedule so I am leaving a bag when I fly home and since I will buy all my stuff once I hit the ground I should be good; now if I have left overs leaving then we could have issues. Of course it is LA so I figure if I make small talk about LSU and Duck Dynasty I should be fine.

Had no idea what JRTC was so googled it. They've got a pretty active facebook presence. Lots of photos of training exercises. Cool to see.

Used to do a lot of Forward Air Controlling there, but we always deployed to England AFB (now closed) in Alexandria. There was a honky tonk named the Rajun' Cajun there that we used to frequent. We even used to take an Air Force six pack (crew cab pickup) there as it was out only transportation.

Talked with my friend tonight (on last week ‘s BG list so happy for him), he said Cecil’s (they own three restaurants in the area but he specifically mentioned the cajun and steak).

My Dad despised the place so much when he was asked to take command of Ft. Polk and offered a promotion to do so, he retired instead. That's all I've got. Nada.

Oh man.. that's a tough one. I'm in Shreveport and Lake Charles over the next two weeks, and I pass right through that area, really not much there. Last time I was at Ft. Polk was 1995/6, just not a whole helluva lot around there.

I'd say avoid Byrd Hospital unless you want MRSA.

There has to be some decent food aroudn Leesville.

Thanks Free, I was half joking about the location since it is a sh^^^hole and honestly I am to tired to go anywhere. 20 hour days and half the time I am in the woods. Things should slow down on my 2nd time so maybe I will go do a few things. Luckily today is a report writing day so should have some down time to chill.
