Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday was a scheduled day off for receiver George Campbell who continues to recovery from a core muscle injury.

Campbell missed last season with the injury and has come back this spring but at a gradual pace.

"That surgery they have now, that's a serious deal getting back," Fisher said. "It's the supporting muscles and things too. It's the things around it and that's where you some injuries and he had a hard day yesterday. He's been going good and when we're going back-to-back days, we won't go back-to-back days with him."

Fisher said he expects Campbell to return for Saturday's practice. Fisher also said redshirt senior defensive back Nate Andrews and sophomore defensive back Carlos Becker are on the mend. He said Becker sustained a concussion while Andrews picked up a hamstring injury.

Here's some other news and notes from today's practice:

>As we've seen all spring FSU continued to host another college football staff. Today's visitors were coaches from California Polytechnic. Earlier in the spring Tennessee-Martin came to Tallahassee to observe. It's common practice to see coaches from FCS to Division III to NAIA programs spend anywhere from a few days to a week shadowing a college program which may run a similar offense or defense.

>FSU ran with Josh Ball and Jauan Williams at left tackle while Ethan Frith and Abdul Bello were each manned at left guard. Baveon Johnson and Andrew Boselli grabbed reps at center. Cole Minshew and Derrick Kelly received time at right guard while Brock Ruble and Rick Leonard were at right tackle. Seminoles offensive line coach Rick Trickett was adamant about the unit's footwork. He did sound pleased with how Frith was performing in certain situations.

>Tight ends did eventually split off into individuals but it came toward the end of open practice. The group was also doing footwork drills led by Ryan Izzo. He was followed by Mavin Saunders, Tre' McKitty and Naseir Upshur.

>Redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James was in the receiving line catching passes and having some fun. He failed to corral one ball and it led to a couple jokes being made about James being a defensive back. James laughed and took it all in good stride. As for others in the receiving line, both Nyqwan Murray and Da'Vante Phillips made some one-handed catches look easy.

>Sticking with James, he was part of the kick return rotation which included Cam Akers, Ryan Green and Amir Rasul.

>There were some familiar faces who were at practice. Former players Travis Johnson, Bryant McFadden and Mario Edwards Jr. were in attendance. The surprise of the day, however, came when former quarterback Xavier Lee caught practice for a few minutes.
