Having some problems with the left side of my toe on my left foot where the nail grows. It feels like an ingrown issue and has become a nuisance because I trail run 3 times a week. Too lazy and cheap to go to my family doc, fork out a 35 copay only to be referred to a podiatrist. Might be rubbing to toe next to it, not sure.

None of the insurance I currently take in my office requires a referral to a podiatrist. Check your insurance. You may be able to self refer yourself. You are welcome.

Had ingrown issues my whole life. I just dig them out myself. Hurts. Use lots of antiseptic.
I had that problem with ingrown toe nails for 15-20 years. Both big toes at some point in high school (played soccer) got bruised bad enough to lose the nail and after growing back couldn't clear the skin so they just grew "in". I used to dig at them and cut the nails but every step I took had pain. I finally went to the podiatrist and they removed both nails (killed them with some chemical). They were sore for a coupe weeks and it took a couple months for it not not feel "weird" when drops of water hit them in the shower but I haven't had pain in my toes for a couple years. I regret waiting so long.

I've had similar done, but they only cut off the sides. I still have 1 1/2 toe nails. One side of one big toe still has the capability to grow in.

For everyone digging them out themselves and dealing with the EXCRUCIATING pain, please please please just go see a podiatrist. It might cost you a couple hundred out of pocket but LR peeps have that in their ash trays.

Does it cause you to veer off course while running? Could be tonal discourse, for which there is no cure.

No problems with steering while running, really not a major pain with most shoes I wear. Not quite sure what y'all are talking about concerning digging, unless cleaning behind the nails, which I do when I clip them.

By digging I mean when the toe nail was ingrown literally digging it out and clipping the nail as best I could to relieve the pain. It was both big toes but the left was much worse than the right. If I let them grow it just got more and more painful so I would reach a point where I couldn't take it any more (every couple weeks) and did my best to cut them back.

Just lightly stubbing my toe on something would cause very sharp, intense pain. I wish I still had a picture of my toe right after they cut the nail and were "killing" the roots....it looked absolutely horrible but the pain of having that done was so much less than what I had been dealing with on a daily basis that it actually felt good - strange as that might sound.

EDIT: I found a picture of it if anyone wants it posted.
