FSU needs a quarterback. They are most likely going to sign an out of state prospect once again in 2026. The top five quarterback in state are Noah Grubbs (Lake Mary), Dia Bell (American Heritage), Dereon Coleman (Orlando Jones), Michael Clayton (Edgewater) and Will Griffin (Tampa Jesuit). Each of these quarterbacks has already chosen a school but which of these guys would be a good fit for FSU and potentially flip during the season.
1) Noah Grubbs - (Lake Mary HS) 6'4-200 (Committed to Notre Dame): Before last season started many scouts and experts in the business felt Grubbs was one of the best quarterbacks to come out of Florida in the past ten years. He has great size. Big kid and he can see over the line of scrimmage. There is no denying his arm strength. He can make every throw. He can put the ball where his receiver can catch it. He does a good job of anticipating his throws. Give him a pocket and Grubbs will pick you apart. He is a pure pocket passer. There is no confusion here. He is not going to remind anyone of Josh Allen. (Player Comp: Jared Goff) Not a good fit but is the best QB in Florida.
2) Dia Bell -(American Heritage Plantation) 6'2-200 - (Committed to Texas): Bell is the son of Radja Bell who played for the Miami Heat. I like prospects that come from Pro Athletes. Pressure is not going to bother this kid. He makes plays with both his arms and legs. Bell really improved as a passer over the past year. He will come off his first read and find the open receiver. He has a good arm. He can move well in the pocket. He is someone that you can build an offense around. I like Bell but Texas has some better options inside their own state. Could they slow play him and take a look at one of those guys? (Player Comp: Darian Mensah-Duke)
3) Dereon Coleman-(Orlando Jones) 5'11-170-(Committed to Miami): Coleman has an elite trait (speed). He is fast. Coleman had over 100 yards rushing in the state title game. He is the ideal fit for Gus offense. Coleman also has a very good arm. He can throw from all arm angles. Love the way the kid plays the game. It comes easy to him. I feel as if the game moves in slow motion. He is in control. I feel that with a Luke Nickel on Miami's roster, FSU has more to sell Coleman at this time. He would be the ideal fit in this new offense. (Player Comp: Kyle Murray)
4) Michael Clayton-(Edgewater) 6'3-180-(Committed to Illinois) Excited to see Clayton this spring. Want to see how much his game has developed. He has good size. He displayed a good arm last year on the camp circuit. Consistency is key. Can he be more consistent passing the football? (Player Comp: Malik Murphy)
5) Will Griffin-(Tampa Jesuit) 6'3-220-(Committed to UF) Griffin is more of a run first quarterback. He needs to refine his passing skills. He can throw the ball but it is not always going to look good. He is able to beat a defense with his legs. He has a ways to go in the development part of the game. (Player Comp: Tim Tebow)
Final Thoughts: It will be interesting to see how FSU quarterback recruiting pans out. They don't have one guy who is a done deal at this point. Bell and Coleman are the two on this board FSU should continue to recruit just in case the out of state guys decide to go elsewhere. I do think Bell and Coleman would both be good good options. We should have a better understanding after spring football.
