well...just like everything, there is a huge range in prices in these things.
I want wired(not Bluetooth), over the ear ones.
I’ve looked on Amazon and of course they show many under $100...anyone have recommendations on particular ones?
(Will be using them to listen to music from Spotify on my iPad FYI)

I don't know...I thought the sound would be better with wired?
Yeah these days I don’t think that’s the case. Once you go Bluetooth you’ll never go back. I have these...

They’re not as good as Bose, of course, but $250 less. I’ve worn them on two flights now and have had no issues other than the controls on the ear pieces themselves are inconsistent.

I just finally converted to Bluetooth earphones this week. I had used wired noise-cancelling Sony models as my primary travel headphones. I bought these https://www.sony.com/electronics/truly-wireless/wf-sp700n, and the sound is better than any of my wired models. They also have some nifty features like syncing with all my other song products and using the same app to control them.

I'll suggest to get bluetooth that can also be plugged in. The ones I have now are Sony 1000XM2 which allow both options. They don't fit your budget but if you want a really good set and want to spend some more dough they are very good. I use them every day at work for several hours. The reason why I suggest having both options is it is nice to have wired to plug into non bluetooth devices, like airplanes.

Yeah I think most of them have that option. My $100 pair do anyway.

Best buy has a decent display of several brands and models and easy to get an idea of what may be best for you. I found the $229.00 Bose pair to have the best combination of sound, value and was the most comfortable without feeling like you have giant pair of earmuffs on your head. The higher prices Bose had the noise cancelling option but were not quite as comfortable. Some of the other brands were close in sound quality and oddly a few were not very comfortable which makes buying online a risk. Outside of product reliability, I would not fully trust someone else's perception of a product like this due to subjectivity of one's experiences with audio and comfort.

I use headphones a lot.

There is one “in ear” set that I find actually quite comfortable.

The Bose soundsport full wireless. Sounds very good, though not audiophile flat, no cable noise, get hear your steps when walking (often a problem with in ears). I use these for running and they’re really great.

For sitting around at work, sometime I use the b&o e8s. They block out sound. Sound great. But not the most comfortable to wear for hours.

I have the Bose noise reduction over the ear for flying and they are awesome. But the Bose Sport is great for everything else. You can get them for$120 if you search or look on QVC.

I would have loved to see a comparison of component costs with other competing brands. All we get out the article is that beats makes a nice profit from their products.

We did a unit on Beats when they came out. They were universal equipment packaged as premium, including adding material to make them feel hefty. Perhaps they have changed in 7 years. They were unremarkable at the time, other than price and marketing.

This what I finally settled on...a zillion good reviews and so cheap I figured worth a try. Pretty bass heavy but I found an equalizer function in the Spotify app which adjusts that very nicely. So far so good.
