I'm sure Serena will blame anything but her actual opponent for beating her.
I heard a portion of her post match press conference and she just said Vinci played the match of her life. Didn't hear any excuses.
Vinci said she never thought she'd win either.
She tripped over her schlong at a critical point in the 2nd set and never recovered.
I don't get the disdain for Serena.
She's the only American in the top 18, she's #1 in the world, and among (if not the) greatest of all-time.
Rooting against her seems pretty un-American.
Wasn't a huge Sampras fan but anytime he played someone not named Agassi I rooted for him.

Seriously, look at her upper body, she has twice the muscle mass of 99% of her competition. Genetics and / or PEDs, it's not even close in terms of brute strength and power. She's an anomaly in women's tennis.
She's an anomaly because her opponents don't strength train. Look at Lindsay Davenport when she lifted. If the top players cared more about winning than their modeling contracts, the game would be more competitive.

Her behavior isn't any worse than Andy Roddick, Stan Wawrinka, Sharapova, or Wozniacki. You can find reasons to dislike most players, if you try. I don't see why you'd want to with Serena. She's basically carrying U.S. tennis right now.

I'm sorry, am I supposed to care about US Tennis, because I don't. I root for individual players in individual sports.
I'll say it... I'm a long time tennis fan, but mostly the men's game. For me, women's tennis is about who is the hotter player, and Serena has never once been on the more attractive side of the net for me. Never liked Martina "Man"ratilova either.
I was pleased to see that at least on the tribal council there were quite a few folks disappointed in her loss.

When they set it up for her sister to tank against her so she can advance, I quickly became a fan of any of her opponents.

I thought McEnroe was an ass. Why would you assume otherwise? I am OK with him now is role as an analyst. He seems to have a sense of humor about his past antics.
As for Serena I do root for her. Never said I didn't. Doesn't mean I can't speculate on why someone else would root against her. And it's a valid reason.
Now he's seen as a folk hero-- after years have passed. Many Americans saw him as a brat when he played and didn't root for him.
Perhaps we will see the same for Serena as the years pass. But the combination of her antics plus her dad's is why people don't like her.

Anyway, I just go back to the hotness scale when watching women's tennis... and with the Williams sisters dominating for more than 10 years my viewership of the sport has gone way down. If Sharapova or Ivanovik are playing I will watch for a while, if its Serena, I'm on to the next channel.

I'm with you though, I always root for the hotter looking player.
In other words, it was a fluke/anomaly that she got beat. Which it was, but not for her to point out. I didn't see the interview though, so I'll allow that this may be splitting hairs from a partial quote and she was gracious in defeat.
Serena has zero class, cant stand her. Her sister Venus has really matured by comparison and i respect her. I get that their dad did a number on them but Serena has a horrible, entitled attitude and is a terrible loser. Actually just read an article on USA today this week im sure someone can post about her antics.
