USS Indianapolis Live on PBS

Crazy story, how the world would be different had that ship been sunk going the other direction!

They would have just found another way to get the bomb to Guam.

I don't think they had anymore, so that would've been a while!

I think we would've went forward with the invasion and many of us wouldn't be here today.

History Channel aired a documentary on the anniversary of the sinking. That was unbelievable hell what those men went through.

"American military archives reveal that if the Japanese had not surrendered on August 15, 1945, they would have been hit by a third and potentially more powerful atomic bomb just a few days later and then, eventually, an additional barrage of up to 12 further nuclear attacks."

Maybe, but you have to remember the Japanese knew the Russians were coming too. The day we dropped the second bomb the Red Army invaded Manchuria and the Japanese army melted. In fact, the Russians and Japanese still dispute the territory Stalin seized.

Japan probably would have ended up like Germany, partitioned in half. They're lucky they quit when they did.
