Warchant.com and a few other media members got to sit down with Jimbo Fisher for about 15 minutes on Tuesday and hit on several topics.

Here are the highlights:
  • Talked about the proposal to go move to 10 assistant coaches on the staff. Fisher said he's all for it but is afraid the rule won't pass because of all the other stuff attached to the proposed rule. On a follow-up, Fisher said the 10th coach would probably focus on defense/special teams.
  • On playing neutral site games says he sees positives and negatives. Pointed out that these games are the closest you are going to get to a playoff environment. Said the FSU-Alabama matchup could be the biggest opener in college football history considering where both teams will probably be ranked going into the game. "They (neutral) site games are here to stay. I don't know if you should do them every year. But at the same time they are exciting and fun."
  • Talked a lot about Bailey Hockman. Again, pointed out how good an athlete he is, that he has a good arm and understands the game. Good demeanor for the game.
  • On Dalvin Cook in the draft: "He's going to get somebody a dynamic play-maker. You go back in the history of college football and there aren't many guys that have had (as many) long touchdown runs... He moves the sticks and changes the numbers on the scoreboard. When he gets in space he can run, he separates his acceleration and can catch the ball out of the backfield."
  • On Demarcus Walker: "The play, the level of consistency and the level of competition he created in practice - he made the guys in practice around him better. You talk about a guy that maximizes everything, I'm talking about his moves, his technique and his talent. He loves the game."
  • Said the defense is ahead of the offense 90% of the time in spring practice. Added that he wants the defense to be ahead of the offense: "If the aren't we've got problems."
  • Offensive line: Talked highly of young tackles Josh Ball and Jajuan Williams. "(Cole) Minshew, I thought had a really good spring." Noted he got better in pass protection. Liked what he saw from the young centers - Baveon Johnson and Andrew Boselli. Also, noted the improvement of Derrick Kelly and that his experience came through this spring. At right tackle said Rick Leonard was playing really well before his minor injury late in the spring. Said he also saw some time at left tackle. And also raved how improved Brock Ruble - "He got bigger and stronger, and played really consistent."
  • On support staff confirmed that he plans to make more additions before the season but wants to make sure it's the right fit. Really wants people qualified to do breakdowns and evaluations, and also be ready to move up in case there are any changes on the coaching staff.
