West side nole needs some help.

They do. But realistically it would be pretty isolating to move across the country and live where busses are the only way around. It’s abslotely doable but it’s not what I’d prefer for one of my kids. Living on campus with no car? Sure. Actually preferable. But off campus? Not my desire, especially that far away.

@AllNoles how is it any different than moving from Miami and doing the TCC Route? Honestly, flights are probably the same price from Miami to Tally vs Cali to Tally. Look it up. Dorms are MUCH more expensive than apartments, I regretted living in a dorm my first year. If I could do it again, I would do the JUCO route, save a crap ton of money and be in the same situation that I am today, only with a lot less student loan debt. A car is not required. TCC students get free busses, just as FSU students do and are accepted into all of the FSU social events (with the exception of Greek life, but that wasn’t my thing and shouldn’t be for your son if you are trying to save some money). Some of my best college friends went to TCC prior to attending FSU and at the end of the day, your son will graduate with a bachelors degree from FSU, the degree with not say otherwise. Take @AllNoles up on the free meals though, that’s a classy move and I’d love to meet the dude in person one day.

Ok guys I'm back. So I'm headed out to Tallahassee Tuesday to check out the schools , FSU and TCC , any suggestions on what to see or do would be appreciated i have only about 1 day and a 1/2 . Really want to say thank you again to everyone who responded before you guys are truly awesome . Real life stuff that effects my family forever and you guys helped out . Thanks you .

@plnole, I have been out of Tally for 2 years now, but I lived there for 10 as a student and resident and have a few connections for part time jobs if it works out for him. Shoot me an email at ssr06@my.fsu.edu with any questions and I’d be more than happy to provide and advice/support that I can.

I get it. We just see it differently. If my daughter was moving on campus in a dorm I would keep her car here. But with her living in an apartment I want her to have her car. It’s not required. But it’s my preference.

@plnole, Just a reminder from my reply to your original post, ask every question you can think of from admissions staff and do not hesitate to go back if you think of more questions. They are extremely accommodating and will go out of their way to find you an answer. Also get the contact info from whatever admissions officer you speak with while there in case you think of something when you get home. They will get right back to you. I was amazed how much they went out their way to help us.

My son is down to his final two (and the other school just came up with a nice scholarship) but I'm thinking it will be FSU so he may be there with your son. Good luck & let us know how you make out.

Also, get lunch at Jim & Milts if you get a chance. I go whenever in town because good barbecue is a little hard to get up here

Warchant nation , you guys are the best. Given us a lot to think about and good questions to ask . I guess we will be making a trip out to FSU . That also leads to another problem not many flights from San Diego into Tallahassee . Again THANK You to everyone , Go Noles

No but a fair amount to LA and it’s about $200 cheaper per person. If you can find a cheap place to store your car you’d probably make out by parking in LAX and flying out of there if it’s more than just you.

I had no idea Jim & Milt's was still around... It's been awhile since I've made it to Tallahassee.

I'd suggest Fred's Backdoor Lounge, Phyrst Bladder Bust, Clyde's 4 for 1, and Big Daddy's Beat the Clock... But maybe not age appropriate for the new student or my aged self!

My son was initially admitted into the same Spring Semester Pathways program. We're from CO so had the same worries as your son. After some initial trepidation my son became comfortable with the idea of doing TCC for a semester, mainly because he wanted to be down there for the fall. Southgate is "basically" on the FSU campus and about 50-50 FSU-TCC students. It sounds like all the FSU events during the call are open the the Pathways students as well so they won't have classes with FSU students but will be around them on campus a lot.

Full disclosure, he ended up getting a summer admittance offer and took that instead but he was comfortable going the TCC route had this other offer not come.

And by all means, add me to the list of people you can reach out to during move-in, orientation or otherwise. We can drown our sorrows together at Proof once we have to start writing those checks for out of state tuition.

I have a nephew at TCC looking for the same transition. Started out using buses and bike for trans. Next term found a pt time job, got a scooter. To connect, we gave him some names where he could volunteer on FSU campus which led to his job. He also was able to take a class at FSU that he needed.

don't think he has the option of doing classes out here. Pathway program seems pretty strict . The needing a car thing kind of worries me that may not be doable . Thank you again,
Uber/Lyft...bicycle? Does Tally have Car2Go? Tallahassee-Leon County transit system? Might be able to get away with not having a car. Surely there are other folks looking at the same program as your son who might have wheels? I'm sure your son is a resourceful young man who will find creative ways to get around.

Southwest offers one or two nonstop flights per day from SD to Orlando and Tampa. 4 hour drive from there to Tallahassee.

Ok. I’m at the airport in San Diego. I’m headed to Tallahassee for a visit with my son and family. It’s a dream come through. I’m going to Fsu. Been a fan for 40 plus years. Gotta see the noles play in rose bowl in National championship. That was the best day ever. Tomorrow or tonight might be second best. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice for my family.
