Growing up Battleships was fun when you could find someone that didn't cheat.

As a kid- Col Mustard in the Library with the candlestick, Connect Four, Risk, The Generals, Guess Who

As an adult with drinks- Trivia Pursuit DVD, Shout About, Heads Up

Chess if that is considered a board game.

If not then Monopoly and Stratego.

Chess is still a fav of mine and Stratego, at its core, is similar to chess.

Risk is a awesome game. I hate Monopoly, with 4 people and play by the exact rules it's virtually unwinnable

Not true jam. It's when people make up rules that usually make the game longer. Like the free parking = money rule usually makes the game a lot longer. Monopoly doesn't take all that long when played right.

Growing up it was chess, Axis and Allies and Dungeon the super stripped down D&D game that disappeared for 30 years but popped back up recently.

As an adult, definitely Battlestar Galactica if people know what they're doing. It's a quasi-cooperative game where you're struggling against random events that pop up but one or two of your human players will secretly be Cylons who are stabbing you in the back but hopefully not in an obvious way where they are found out. It's actually a very easy and fun game but the board LOOKS complex and the subject matter (nerdy scifi series) turns away a lot of people who would otherwise love it if it was called Parker Brothers Backstab! or something equally innocuous. Lords of Waterdeep is something similar (minus backstabbing and not mostly cooperative) in that it's a fantastic game but because of a complex looking gameboard and nerdy tie-in (D&D) normies don't like to play it for fear of nerd rubbing off. Both of those are fantastic games I wish I could play more of (and I do LoW on my iPhone as there's an app for it.

Smallworld is pretty shallow but fun although it's war bent means a lot of vaginas are not interested in playing it. Dominion and 7 Wonders are probably my favorite amongst the non super nerdy just ordinary nerdy set and are both vagina friendly.

Used to love this when I was a kid.

There are a lot of really good board games out now. The Europeans love them and make some great quality. Pandemic is one of my favorites to play as a cooperative game. I also enjoy Castle Panic with my son. Then there's also the old standby's of Settlers of Cataan, Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, etc...

Cataan I never cared for (although someone gave me the ST version as it's got a great board and pieces) as it's too unbalanced. By now everyone knows not to bother with getting sheep. Pandemic I like in principal but in practice the 100% truly cooperative games like its base set just devolve into the most experienced player just telling everyone what to do. That's why I tend to prefer either 100% competitive or those games which have a (or maybe even multiple) hidden backstabber within the cooperative elements like Battlestar Galactica. Carcassone I never could get into for some reason but Ticket to Ride is a great game.

My favourites other than those I've already mentioned include Puerto Rico, Dominion, Brass, Race for the Galaxy, The Resistance: Avalon, Stone Age, Galaxy Trucker, Red Dragon Inn, and Elder Sign.

I like balderdash, tri-bond, the game of things, and Linkee.
