CK knew it would offend people, so how about that, a stupid, young punk knew that it would piss a lot of people off and that's why he did it. For those of you that didn't think it would offend people, I feel bad for you!

Don't you think you are being a bit hard on Charles Kelly?

The performance of CK's defense last week was highly offensive.
My question and I really don't care one way or the other in regards to the issue. I will continue to watch the NFL and play in FFL.
Before the President's comments, only a handful of players were kneeling. Why wasn't all the other players kneeling with them then? Why wouldn't they staying in their locker rooms during the National Anthem or linking arms together before the comments?
So after the comments, they are doing their thing, everyone kneeling, linking arms, staying in locker rooms.
So are they unifying against just the president being they didn't take action until after the comments or are they really unifying against the issue at hand in which Colin started his protest?
What? Did you read the article from the other thread I posted to you about CK meeting w/ a former Green Beret and modifying his protest out of respect for the military?CK knew it would offend people, so how about that, a stupid, young punk knew that it would piss a lot of people off and that's why he did it. You can think what you'd like to think, that's your prerogative, however that doesn't make it reality.
And honestly, it's a bit hyper sensitive to get worked up over someone else taking a knee during the anthem. Like there's a lot of way way worse stuff going on in the world that's far more worthy of being pissed off about. Let's have some perspective here por favor.
Maybe writing a letter to the editor of the local paper?I'm not certain there's any way that CK or any other person of color can choose to protest this that isn't going to piss off a certain segment of society.
Maybe writing a letter to the editor of the local paper?
Yes, because nothing causes systematic change in 2017 faster than a letter to the editor.
That was my point yesterday. This is how white supremacy uses it's power to change the conversation. At this point, many of my friends of color are saying it's time to now drop this protest as they've officially lost and look for another way to get the attention. The President and the media have essentially changed the discussion from police brutality to "Freedom of Speech" and "Respect of the Flag". I keep hearing black media members trying to get the conversation back on course, but it keeps becoming an anti-Trump, Freedom of Speech conversation, or a conversation on whether it's truly disrespectful to kneel. The actual content of the original message has now been lost.
The entire system of America has been built around the idea of White Supremacy. It's only been the last few decades that we've even started talking about changing it. But yes, this is what it looks like when white people get uncomfortable and change the narrative of the conversation.Wait, white supremacy is controlling the narrative now?

I'm a white man myself. I hardly think being white is evil. I simply recognize that the majority of systems this country runs on were built many many years ago by men who believed that white people were supreme and who argued it, articulated it, and lived it. It's embedded in our system. Having a black President doesn't change the system. It shows we're advancing as people, but it hardly changes the system. He tried to change some of it, but he only made a dent, and much of that has already been undone by Trump who is a direct result of having a black President for 8 years.I guess you missed the last 8 years of a black president.....I know, I know, the white man is evil!

There's no need to protest something on which everyone agrees. You're missing my point, my point is that he knew people would get upset about it, just like you don't care and don't see how others do, there's an opposite opinion than yours and he knew very well that it would piss people off, why else would he do it?
By the way, you don't think in his conversation with the green beret that that would not have come up? Seriously?
There's no need to protest something on which everyone agrees.
Someone is always going to be upset.Huh?
Thank youSomeone is always going to be upset.
Polls at the time of his death showed that MLK was the most hated man in America. He apparently upset some people. Was he supposed to navel gaze until he found the perfect method of protest that wouldn't annoy anyone?
The concept of finding a form of protest that doesn't offend anyone is a fools errand that the majority or power-holder uses to belittle and thwart the minority.
Among whites, 59% say the players are doing the wrong thing while 82% of blacks say it's the right thing to do. Almost 9 in 10 Republicans say it's the wrong thing (87%) while just about three-quarters of Democrats say the opposite (72%). And most younger Americans call it the right thing (56% among those under age 45) while a majority of older Americans say it's wrong (59% among those age 45 or older).
It would appear that approving or disapproving of the form of protest is basically split by race with most blacks and progressive whites approving and more conservative whites disapproving.
Based on that, it's pretty safe to say this is more about the underlying inequities being protesting than the form of protest itself as I find it hard to argue that one race or party affiliation tends to be more patriotic than another.
Honestly based on these numbers, getting 41% support from whites, means the protest is not actually as offensive or upsetting as some would suggest.
Huh?
