Why Focus on the Inside Option?

I don't understand why we are focusing mainly on taking out the inside option. It seems the outside is more dangerous and able to spring a big play, while the inside is our strength. Wouldn't it be better to take out the outside options and trust our big inside guys to handle the inside like they do?
