Viewership dipped 12% from last year's championship between Michigan and Washington and people are discussing why that might be. Let us know your thoughts and reasons why you believe that to be true. The dip was consistent with a dip in the semifinals from the first round of last year's four team playoff.

Various publications have offered their reasons which include:
- a conflict with the Presidential Inauguration and Martin Luther King Day?
- scheduled a week later than last year's championship game?
- lacked intersectional appeal with Ohio State and Notrre Dame from the same region of the country?
- lacked an SEC team?
- some combination of the above.

While I think each of those are valid, I wonder if -- and nobody wants to publish it -- college football is losing some of its "win one for the gipper" appeal with 10 or 12 percent of the market of fans,

And the broadcasters are ascerbating that by talking about how much Ohio State spent to assemble that team, or that Riley Leonard played at Duke last year, rather than hyping up the traditional collegiate feel good stories about majors and community service and school pride.

All that being said, the CFP did well and other than managing the broadcasters message, NIL and the portal is a legal reality the CFP will have to deal with.
