We have broken down the OC job, the DC job, the OL job, now we look at the opening for the WR position at FSU. FSU Seminole Ron Dugans was brought in under Willie Taggart amd retained when Mike Norvell took over as head coach. Dugans had his ups and downs as both a coach and recruiter. With the opening at WR, we look at one option for the position which we feel will be filled the week after the UF game ends. One option is Auburn WR Coach Marcus Davis. For those that want Norvell to move on a coach, Davis season will end after Auburn plays Alabama this weekend. He could be hired and hit the ground running.

Why Marcus Davis? He has had success at each stop as a coach. He was the wide receiver coach at Georgia Southern. He coached Khaleb Hood and Jeremy Singleton. Hood set records with 87 receptions for 925 yards. Singleton had 66 catches for 714 yards. A third receiver Derwin Burgess had 58 receptions for 717 yards and 7 touchdowns. They were first, fourth and fifth in the Sun-Belt Conference. He was the WR Coach at Hawaii. His receivers were very productive at Hawaii. He coached at FSU in 2020 (as a GA). He has coached under Mike Norvell. When you look at his success at each stop, plus his ability to recruit at a high level and inside the state of Florida, Davis may be the guy FSU hires.

Why Not? When I look at the options for FSU to choose from, Davis makes the most sense. He has coached in the SEC (Auburn). He has coached in the ACC (FSU). He has recruited the state of Florida. He has recruited and landed ELITE PROSPECTS (Cam Coleman). There is not much not to like about Davis.

Recruiting: Auburn Freshman - Malcolm Simmons (4-Star) / Cam Coleman (5-Star) combined 66 receptions for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns. He already has landed Denarius Gray (Chaminade-Class of 2026).

Leading receiver at Auburn: Kenadre Lambert Smith (42 Receptions-865 Yards and 8-Touchdowns).

Final Thoughts: The reality is most coaches are going to hire guys they have worked with. There are positives and negatives to each of those situations. The crazy thing is Norvell had never worked with Dugans, Fuller or Atkins and each of those hires did not work out. Davis coached at FSU, Coached under Norvell and has gone off and had success at other programs. I would not be shocked to see Davis as the next WR Coach at FSU.
