FSU women's tennis to play UCF, Bethune in Orlando

FSU sports information:

The No. 24 Florida State women’s tennis team is headed to Orlando for a doubleheader with No. 23 UCF and Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at noon and 4:00 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.

Florida State and UCF will meet after both were unable to travel to their respective host sites for ITA Kickoff Weekend due to the recent winter storm.

FSU opened its season with two 4-0 victories Sunday against Alabama State and looks to bring that momentum into its matchups on Saturday. The Noles are 10-2 all-time against the Knights, and this will be the fourth time the two schools have played with both ranked in the top 25. FSU's last match with Bethune-Cookman came in 2006, resulting in a 7-0 victory.

Sophomore Maelie Monfils is coming off two singles victories last weekend to improve her spring record to 3-1 while Mary Boyce Deatherage also looks to continue her hot start to her freshman campaign after beginning the spring season undefeated in singles at 4-0.

I crapped on Finau and Zalatoris for their "efforts", but I would like to thank Jason Day for shooting a low round in tough conditions to help my mediocre team get two players to the weekend.
As poorly as Hideki started out yesterday, he recovered toward the end of his round and should certainly make the cut after all.

Golf FSU men schedule exhibition vs. Illinois

FSU sports information:

The Florida State men’s golf team will take on Illinois in an exhibition match on Feb. 1 at the Camp Creek Golf Club in Inlet Beach, Fla.

The one-day match will feature two of the top teams in the nation. The Seminoles and Fighting Illini met during the fall in the Folds of Honor Collegiate and the Olympia Fields Intercollegiate.

Illinois finished the first portion of the season ranked 11th in the country in the Golf Coaches Association of America Poll, while the Noles received votes.

Florida State last topped Illinois in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Tournament in match play. FSU and Illinois also finished in the top eight in 2024 qualifying for match play, as the Noles competed against Auburn in the Championship Match.

Both teams have a combined six match play appearances at the NCAA Tournament since 2021.
