FSU sports information:
The No. 23 Florida State volleyball team (16-6, 8-4) fell to No. 5 Stanford (17-4, 9-3) in four sets (25-20, 16-25, 10-25, 22-25) on Sunday afternoon in Tully Gym. Sunday marked the first match between the Seminoles and the Cardinal in ACC play and second match in program history.
In an intense first set, the Seminoles and the Cardinal tied nine times, while only experiencing two lead changes. As the set winded down, Florida State went on a 3-0 scoring run highlighted by two kills from Taylor Head and an ace from Audrey Koenig to give FSU the set, 25-20.
The second set began tightly contested with FSU and Stanford going point for point. Stanford began to turn the tide midway through the set before pulling away and tying the match with a 25-16 victory. The third set was dominated by the Cardinal as they won 25-10.
The final set of the match was highly competitive, as the lead changed five times and the two tying 12. However, the Stanford offense willed the Cardinal to a 25-22 victory.
Offensively, the Seminoles attacked at a .254 clip and tallied 45 kills. Audrey Koenig led the offensive effort with 12 kills and one ace, followed closely by Taylor Head with 11 kills and seven digs. Loren Robertson accumulated 19 assists and six digs.
The Seminoles will be back in action next Friday as they host Wake Forest at 6:30 p.m. on ACCNX.
