DJ Interception in Memphis Game

Listen, I hate making excuses but honestly what were the refs doing on this play. I guess that DJ has been so bad at FSU they just assumed to not look at the actual play but the receiver (Morlock) his defender basically grabbed him while the ball was in the air. No matter how bad the throw is, that is the definition of a PI. It was plain as day and the interception should be overturned and FSU should have had an automatic first down. Also DJ on that play had decent blocking. Early did lose leverage and let his defender through. If DJ moves to his left and not to his right that pass actually gets off and may have been completed.

How bad is this Team when you hold on a Punt!

Norvell has fallen to Willie Taggert level bad on the small, critical things with this team. He should give whatever increase in salary he made off last years “anomaly” lightning in a bottle year, back to FSU. It’s pitiful. Save your negative comments. We need someone to chew on these kids like Mickey and Amato used too. Too many “new school” coaches letting these guys embarrass themselves and their University. Damn man. Norvell looks clueless.

Soccer FSU soccer routs Clemson 3-0

FSU sports information:

The No. 7 Florida State soccer team (7-0-2, 2-0-1) earned a strong 3-0 victory over Clemson (4-4-2, 0-3-0) on Saturday night. FSU maintains its 15-game unbeaten streak in ACC play and remains the last unbeaten team in the conference this season.

Prior to the half hour mark, Heather Gilchrist’s header off a free kick marked the best chance in the game and required a save from the Tigers’ keeper to keep the game scoreless. The Seminoles made four substitutions in the 27th minute that saw all four returning U.S. players grace the pitch for the first time since August 18.

Four minutes later, Jordynn Dudley drove the ball towards the box before laying a pass off to Taylor Suarez who laced a low swinging cross into a sprinting Mimi Van Zanten to score an incredible goal off the crossbar to break the deadlock. Van Zanten scored her fifth career goal and third game-winning goal of the season.

Florida State pounced on the momentum and two minutes later, Giana Riley found a chance in the box before a challenge from a Clemson defender forced the ball to Suarez and scored with a smart, right-footed finish to push the advantage to two. Suarez recorded her second goal in only her third career game for FSU.

The Seminoles were able to put the game out of reach after Wrianna Hudson found fellow freshman Lara Dantas open to bury her effort into the bottom left corner and seal the victory.

Florida State will begin the first of three straight road games with No. 5 Wake Forest on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and available to stream on ACC Network Extra.

Football FSU OL struggling to find cohesiveness, live up to lofty 2024 expectations

As an offensive line standout on a couple great 80s FSU teams, few have enjoyed FSU’s OL resurgence of the last few years more than Mark Salva.

That has made FSU’s serious struggles and lack of cohesiveness up front this season tough for Salva to watch with no clear answers or fixes in sight.

Soccer FSU to play at Boston College on Saturday

FSU sports information:

The No. 22 Florida State soccer team (7-2-2, 2-2-1 ACC) hits the road for a third straight game to face Boston College (10-3-1, 2-2-1 ACC) on Saturday night.

Florida State faces BC for a fourth straight season and has won the last four meetings. The latest matchup in Tallahassee saw five different goal scorers for the Seminoles including a first and second career goal from Peyton Nourse in the 6-0 victory.

Jordynn Dudley scored her first goal since returning from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at Virginia Tech while Carissa Boeckmann sent in a pitch-perfect cross to Lara Dantas for the fourth goal in her rookie campaign.

Taylor Huff leads the squad in all scoring categories with eight goals and five assists for 21 total points inside September. Huff is the fastest to reach 20+ points in the past five seasons and is only 7 points away from reaching her point tally from last season.

The freshman class has performed well with 40 total points, 13 goals, and 14 assists across six players. This marks the most freshmen goal contributions in the past five seasons across all three metrics. Wrianna Hudson and Ashlyn Puerta have each scored three goals and provided four assists while Dantas has scored four goals with two assists.

FSU has scored 36 goals in 11 games this season, the most in that span since 2009 (42). The defense has kept 11 clean sheets since the 2023 ACC Championship victory.

The two sides will kickoff at 7 p.m. and is available to stream on ACC Network Extra. Live video and stats will be available at Seminoles.com.

Mike Norvell HS Recruiting Transfers

Sam McCall: former 5* safety recruit who converted to corner here. Struggled in limited PT as a corner and got a bag from Texas A&M. Lasted one season there, got hardly any PT there, and transferred again to Georgia St. . No recorded stats on the season. Has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Malik McClain: former Rivals 100 WR recruit who had 5 tds here as a true freshman and sophomore. Had his reps being carnivores by guys like O Wilson, Pittman, Williamson, etc. the entire time he was here. FSU brought in Coleman the year he decided to transfer. Had limited production in one year at Penn St. Transferred again to ASU where he has no recorded stats on the season. 2 years of eligibility remaining (Covid year)

Vandrevius Jacobs: redshirted after supposedly being one of our best WRs as a true freshman. Transferred to SCar and is a starting WR a on a much team. (4 years of eligibility remaining)

Rodney Hill: showcase big play potential as a 3rd down back at FSU with ~350 yards in his first two years of limited PT. Transferred to Arkansas and is averaging 5+ ypc as their third down back on a much better team (3 years of eligibility remaining).

Omarion Cooper: the one bright spot on a terrible defensive backfield in 2021. Lockdown corner with two picks. Left after his sophomore year to go to Colorado where he started and played well on a bad defense. Transferred back to FSU after the season where he hasn’t bee able to get consistent PT on a bad defense and guys like D Brown, Knowles, Feagan, etc. (likely last year of eligibility)

Treshaun Ward: former walk on who averaged 5+ ypc at FSU. Randomly transferred to BC after getting a light load last year despite having success in limited opportunity. Averaging ~80 ypg and 6.0+ per carry as the lightning back alongside Robicheaux. (1 year of eligibility remaining)

Tate Rodemaker: left after getting replaced by DJU. Starting QB on an awful So Miss team. Has as many TD’S as int’s and a completion percentage over 60, something no FSU QB can say. Averaged 9.1 ypa and 5tds to no ints in his last year here. Can’t help but think he’d be doing much better than anyone we’ve got on the roster this year. (2 years of eligibility remaining)

Not to mention guys like Bishop Thomas, Quashon Sapp, Antavious Woody who might be looked as burned outs by their new schools (harder to come into a new school and be handed PT at most schools not named FSU, but the narrative that Norvell is some personnel genius is laughable. Not to mention the high school recurs that played him until NSD in Hunter, Auburn DE, etc

Those guys would all be adding value to this roster in spades.

Football FSU coaches, players confident in progress Brock Glenn has made since 2023

The FSU staff knows Brock Glenn got dealt a bit of a "raw deal" last year when he was thrown in the ACC championship game as a true freshman. With another year of experience under his belt, there's confidence in what he can do this now in his return to the starting lineup.

"He is built for it. I love his energy."

Kobe Stewart (Thompson HS-Alabama) 6'3-240 (2.5 Sacks)
Jayden Jones (Arkansas State) 6'5 260 (2 Sacks -2 TFL)

Comments: Kelly was once committed to FSU. He went to Miami and had some injury issues. He is now very productive at UCF. FSU should go after Kelly again. FSU did not want to pay for a player who had a history of injuries. Feel he is worth taking a flyer on. TJ Bush out of Liberty has 3.5 sacks this year. He gives you that strong side DE FSU needs. He is very productive.

  • Jamorie Flagg (RFR) 6’3-315
  • Kevin Wynn (TFR) 6’2-320
Comments: Losing Myron Charles is huge. I would go after Floyd Boucard. He was committed to Oklahoma. He has since opened up his recruitment. He was better than Charles at the UA Camp earlier this year. He never showed up at FSU this spring but now it is time to make him a priority. Also feel FSU needs to go all in on Jeremiah McCloud who is committed to UF. Jarquez Carter committed to Ohio State. I could see them pushing him out for better prospects at DT. FSU has options. FSU has decisions to make if they can't sign quality HS DT. Farmer and Jackson both have extra years. You got to bring them back. I feel if you can bring back Farmer, Jackson and have Sampson and Lyons one year older FSU rotation at DT would be very good next year. Wynn needs to stick in FSU class. We have to wait and see what the portal brings.

TJ Capers - (Columbus HS) 6'2-220 (1 Int)
Stanquan Clark (Miami Killian) 11 Tackles (Louisville)

Comments

Could the linebacker position be better, SURE. That being said I like Cryer and feel he can be an all-conference type player next year. Nichelson is a prospect that is new to the position. You will see be in the right spot. He did fill the hole last week and get pushed back but that can be fixed with weight training and learning proper technique. His instincts show that the kid is in the right position. I still expect FSU to bring in some high school backers. Redmon will most likely move to linebacker once on campus. Ward/Nichelson, Parrish/.Cryer is a good start. One way to fix the position is go and get a legit backer out of the PORTAL. Start with Xavian Sorey. He is from Florida. 23 Tackles, 3 Tackle for loss. He is at Arkansas and their coach is going to get fired. RAID THE HOGS.

Phillip Dunnam (North Miami Beach HS) 6'1-190 (FAU) (2 Interceptions-9th in Tackles)

Comments: Phillip Dunnam should have been recruited out of NMB in HS. He played very well at Indiana. He has since transferred to FAU. He has 2 interceptions and in 9th in tackles on the team. He would fit in nicely at FSU. He is similar to Jammie Robinson. He would give FSU a calming presence in the secondary. Singletary was a big time recruit out of high school. He signed with Georgia and is now at Arkansas. He is one of Arkansas better defensive backs. Bring him home...Kid can play. CJ Ward was committed to FSU. He is someone that was pushed out of their class. Good kid who liked FSU. Well all he has done at FAU is be their second leading tackler (20). I am sure he would be an easy pull.

Braeden Marshall (Lake Mary-UCF) (JR) 7 Tackles
Antoine Jackson (Dillard-UCF) (SO) (4 Tackles, 1 INT-2 PBU)

Comments: Xai as he is known was a prospect I was very high on coming out of Dwyer. He is another kid who got out of the state of Florida. If Xai does not leave to the NFL, FSU needs to hope the kid hits the portal and they can land him. He is a prospect has can move around in the secondary and give you some versatility.

K/P
Jake Weinberg (RFR) 5’10-190 (FR)

Comments: FSU is going to need a punter. I am sure they will bring in a punter this off-season.
