First, Happy Birthday to Coach Jimbo Fisher!

Since it's Miami Hate Week, we'll start there. The first time Jimbo Fisher beat Miami as FSU's head coach was on his birthday in 2010 and he has never lost to the Hurricanes. Hopefully that streak continues tomorrow.

The Noles have played Miami three times on this date in 1993, 1999 and 2010 and have never lost. Two of the games (93 & 99) FSU was ranked #1 at the time of the game and went on to win the national title.

In 1993, it was the first time in 3 years the game did not come down to a FG attempt in the final minutes of the game.

In front of a record crowd of 77,813, the Noles beat the canes 28-10 in Doak Campbell Stadium.

Miami scored a TD in the 1st quarter breaking a string of 7 straight scoreless quarters by the FSU defense.

With the game tied in the 1st quarter, FSU's offense took just three plays to break it. On 3rd & 10, Charlie Ward broke out of the pocket, scrambled to the right and lofted the ball on the run over two Miami defenders to a streaking Matt Frier in stride for a 72-yard score. The completion was the longest of his career at the time which he would break the next week with an 86-yard TD pass to Tamarick Vanover against Virginia. Ward added another 2nd quarter TD on the ground to give the Noles a 14-point lead going into the half against the canes.

The FSU defense held a potent Miami offense to only 193 yards, despite playing most of the 2nd half without Derrick Brooks.

With 5 minutes left in the game, Miami native Devin Bush, sealed the victory for FSU when he returned the first interception of his career 40 yards for a touchdown. Bush had missed the game the previous week due to a thigh injury and it was uncertain if he would play against Miami.

The victory ended Miami's three game series streak over FSU and was the highest scored against them since 1984.

In 1999, FSU went into the game against Miami riding a 5-game winning streak against the Hurricanes and had won 26 straight games at home and 43rd without a loss (Choke at Doak in '94 counts as a tie obviously) and the streak was furthered with the victory that day over Miami.

FSU was without their star receivers in Peter Warrick who was suspended and Lavernanues Coles who was dismissed, both just 2 days prior to the game. In their absence, Chris Weinke connected with 11 different receivers for 332 yards and 2 touchdowns to overcome the adversity.

One of those receivers was 5th year senior Germaine Stringer who had only 12 catches before the game, but finished the day with 3 for 80 yards and a TD. It was the first TD scored by the Noles in the game on a 48-yard pass from Weinke.

After Weinke found former walkon TE Ryan Sprague behind Miami's linebackers for an 18-yard score, the teams went in tied at 21 at the half.

After a Janikowski FG, the Noles took the lead halfway through the 3rd quarter and never let it go thanks to the FSU defense holding Miami scoreless in the 2nd half to take home the 31-21 win. The final scoring came after Weinke connected with Ron Dugans on a 54-yard completion to set up the clinching 2-yard TD run by Travis Minor.

In 2010, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher celebrated his 45th birthday with a blowout victory over the Hurricanes in Miami. It was the first signature win of his young career.

The Noles pounded #13 Miami on the ground. Lonnie Pryor had 45 yards rushing with a TD, Jermaine Thomas rushed for 78 yards with 3 TD's and Chris Thompson had a career night with 158 yards rushing including a 90-yard score. Chris Thompson's run was the 3rd longest in school history behind only Larry Key's 97-yarder in 1976 and Sammie Smith's 95-yarder in 1987. It has now moved down another spot on the list after Dalvin Cook's 94-yarder in our last game. Jermaine Thomas' scoring put gave him sole possession of the 9th place all-time at FSU with 18 career rushing touchdowns and was the first three-score game by a Seminole since Antone Smith ran for three against Miami in 2008.

The line that opened holes for the FSU runningbacks, also did not allow a sack against quarterback Christian Ponder, allowing him to connect on 2 TD passes.

Greg Reid took a kickoff for a season-long return of 55 yards to help setup a Dustin Hopkins FG to extend the FSU lead to 24-7 before the half.
