And this is why I just roll my eyes when people say "He/she doesn't look like a criminal!" or "Well what does a criminal look like?".
I hate to be that guy but..... if it was a 40 year old male teacher an an 8th grade female student, the charges and reactions would be much worse.
I don't think you're being "that guy", we all have the same opinion or view of it gender perception in these cases.

I think in this case, the kid being a middle schooler makes it creepier than some of the other ones we have fun with. If it's a 17yo boy, I don't think we look at that like he was taken advantage of, but an 8th grader is still a kid.
But yes, if the roles are reversed there's still a double standard in the way we perceive what happened, when in reality it's the same thing. I'm sure it goes back to some animalistic dominant male thing where guys are supposed to go out and get the sex, and women are kinder, gentler, and should be protected.

The kid was 15 years old and in 8th grade, so you know he must have been a smooth talker.
My turn to be "that guy"... says the kid was 15 and it was the summer before 9th grade. I wasn't ready to take on a full time job and support a family, but I was definitely cognizant of what was going on around me and what I was involved in.
As is the case with gender roles being reversed, we rightfully blame the persons in position of authority, but the minors need to know they have an obligation to report inauspicious behavior as soon as it presents itself.
I didn't recognize that the kid was old enough to have a starter mustache and a learner's permit before he got to high school - that's my bad.

I mean, NDallasDaughter is 13yo and about to start 9th grade - she doesn't turn 14 until the end of September. I turned 14yo in the summer between 8th and 9th grade.
Maybe she thought she was picking out the guy that wasn't going to say anything.
Still, it never makes any sense to me why attractive teachers would want to sleep with young boys when they could hook up with guys at least a little older - without any trouble - and not risk losing their jobs. I guess it's not supposed to make sense.
Come on, there's quite a big difference in the physical harm that a 40yo male can do to an 8yo girl compared to the reverse. With that in mind, I'd also argue that the physchological harm would be greater for the girl. Ban yourself.
Check your reading comprehension. 8th grade. Not 8 years old. You might be the one in line for a ban.
Think of all the ugly teachers banging these kids but never getting caught because the "victims" are too scared to let anyone know they got freaky with miss mole on the nose.
Hell, when I was 18 / 19 I looked younger. I'd have volunteered to be a fetish for some of them. I would have fully know what I was getting into.

Your version of hooking up and mine are a lot different.
I believe in many places the age of consent is 16 so if the woman was I think 24 or younger then there is no law breaking unless she was a teacher. And when you use hooking up, I think a great majority would consider this to mean banging.
Statutory rape, homey. Don't need to be a teacher to get convicted of that crime.
I thought the age of consent which I thought varied by state comes into play with this along with the Romeo and Juliet laws with age difference. In Florida, I thought the age of consent was 18 with the exception for Romeo and Juliet law being 16 as long as the other person is 24 or younger (Could be 23, but I thought it was something like that.) I am not a lawyer but I thought it was something like that.
Probably...you Floridians have some messed up inbred laws. Most states it's no more than a 2 or 3 year age difference.
Unless Texas has changed (I don't keep up with those types of laws, obv), it used to be 17 as the age of consent and a 2 year difference in age pass-ability.
