That was a huge loss for us. We needed him back so bad.
I just wonder who his replacement will be. Kyle Wright? God help us all. I would not start Wright unless we are up 3 games to zero. Fried may need to be our Madison Bumgarner.

The thing I can't get over is how many near home runs the Astros had. I counted 3.

We need Fried to make up for his last outing. Would be nice to get some extra innings out of him if he’s pitching good. Taking both games in Houston could pay huge dividends needless to say.

Awesome win tonight. Fried needs his A game tonight in the worst way and hopefully the bats continue to stay hot.

Was bummed about not being able to get tickets for this weekend, Soler made up for that quickly.

Game 5 may end up being a problem. Figure game 4 would still have to be a bullpen game, now you have to rely on a unproven guy who hasn't thrown in awhile.

Smyly in game 4?
Touki, Mueller, Newcomb, Rich Rod?

They added Spencer Strider and Bryce Elder to the list but there doesn't appear to be any good choices. A choice between pitchers with issues handling new rules on sticky substances, ones that get in trouble quickly in pressure situations and very young and inexperienced. I would go with youth and a prayer. 🙏

Don't forget about Ynoa.

Great game 1. I feel awful for Charlie, but the fact that his effort went to a win makes me feel like maybe we can minimize the potential damage caused by his injury.

It was good to see Luke get his stuff together.

I believe Ynoa is out due to injury. With Wright, Touki or Muller I just don't know how rusty they would be at this point. Newcomb has struggled at times but might be a decent choice for 3-4 innings. They could hold Minter out until Sunday's game and use him.

+1 I can't remember watching a game where the ball flies over the left field wall so quickly. That seems like a very short porch in left! Balls were flying in there last night. Gotta keep the pitches down, except for Alvarez; he can't hit em high and tight.

Too bad Anderson's first start isn't in Houston. He lives in the bottom (and below) the strike zone. Perhaps if there's a game 7, he'll come in handy though?? 😁

I think Fried was tipping his pitches during his last outing against the Dodgers. TV coverage showed Kershaw, Scherzer and another veteran studying Max's movements and they picked up on something. That's smart baseball. I hope Max has figured out what he was doing as well.

Hopefully Kranitz noticed and has worked with him to correct this.

Ynoa is hurt and is not available. Smyly seems like the next best option. It will be interesting to see.

On a humorous note: Will Smith has pitched really well in the postseason… to no little surprise for those who watched him pitch during the regular season. … The AJC’s Mark Bradley aptly referred to Smith as the “archangel of angst.”

Fried getting pummeled … doesn’t look like the pitcher who dominated the last six weeks of the season.

Some unforced and uncharacteristic errors by the Braves.

Rally cap time! Let's get at least 5 runs! Go Braves!!
Tonight did not go as planned. However, our key bullpen pitchers got some rest. Fried needs to figure something out. We won at least one game in Houston which was greatly needed. Now we get them at home for 3. Let's win it in 5. Go Braves!!

Houston just isn't good matchup for Fried, unfortunately...If/when he faces them again, he will just have to cross that bridge when he comes to it and adjust accordingly to have success. (Would help tremendously if the Braves defense plays up to expectations.)

As alluded to in the previous post, at least Max did manage to eat up 5 innings...which should bode well for the pen going into the weekend. If Atlanta can get game 3, both teams will be in the same boat pitching-wise heading into Saturday.

GO BRAVES!!
