Look at Auburn almost losing or Arkansas losing to Toledo or even Ohio State losing to Va Tech last year. Before the playoffs early(September) outer-conference losses meant you were all but done in the title hunt. Now upsets like this don't matter as much any more. All you have to do is win your conference(See Ohio State) and finish strong and you are in.

A loss by Auburn yesterday would've been good monday morning cooler talk but if Auburn was running through the SEC at the end of November this game would've meant nothing. Same scenario if Arkansas runs through the SEC.

That is probably the only downfall of college football playoffs is that every game really doesn't matter any more. Those good appealing outer-conference games that happen early in the season are just good for tv.
