Darrell Jackson in negotiations

I think everyone suggesting all these rules to regulate this behavior fail to realize that there is no governing body with the legal authority to regulate anything at this point. Note I said legal authority. Absent an antitrust waiver from Congress, establishment of a commissioner or governing body, and a unionized work force with collective bargaining, there is no legal way around what is going on. Anyone trying to control or limit what the players are making could and would be sued. Here is a snippet from a legal publication that gives you the drift: Agreements between unaffiliated employers (schools) to fix, maintain, decrease, or control salaries, wages, or terms and conditions of employment are illegal. These agreements, known as wage-fixing or no-poach agreements, can artificially suppress employee compensation and violate antitrust laws. So, without an antitrust waiver good luck.
Yeah, I hate everything that’s going on but I don’t see any way around it at the moment. The majority of fans absolutely hate NIL so I’d be surprised if viewing numbers don’t start taking a pretty noticeable hit sooner rather than later. I watched less college football last season than I’d watched in any single month during a season since I was 9 or so. You cannot have mediocre college QBs making retirement money and expect it not to turn off what a majority of blue collar fans in a major way.

That’s fair. I just think we will see pushback on amounts. I’ve seen some states talk of making student athlete deals private. I think that’s a bad idea. They are being paid with state funds and donations. People should be able to see what’s going on.
Correct me if I am wrong on this but NIL is being paid by the collective, not public institutions with state funds. If the collective is a not for profit corp, which most are, contributions are not a matter of public record.

What will become a matter of public record is the revenue share.

I think we were forced to significantly increase his NIL deal and that's why we didn't have much money left to find difference makers in the spring portal.
1. The price of poker went up significantly over the past couple of years as more and more schools woke up and got involved in portal recruiting wherr Norvell had early success.

2. Don't assume every player is shopping themselves. In addition to coaches tampering, there are now a scad of agents who are calling FSU players selling them on the idea that they can get them X amount from school A, B and C.

3. I have no idea how much Jackson was making or whether he lobbied for more. All rumors. But the last part of your sentence indicates to me that you agree with me that there is no NIL money tree when you wrote "...that's why we didn't have much money left to find difference makers."

4. What FSU actually has for NIL -- whether that is $13 one year and $15 mill the next -- does not go as far in 2025 as it did in 2022 or 2023 partly because agents and coaches are offering the players on your existing roster more than you've payed them in year's past. And partly because the amount of NIL other schools are now willing to pay a new player in 2024 and 2025 is MUCH greater than 2022 or 2023.

But it’s just side pay for play. That’s an out I don’t like. But I won’t spend a penny to support any of this, so not my issue. I just think it all stinks.

Viewership drives ad revenue. Ad revenue is the fuel driving the machine. When that starts to dip year to year, the networks will move on it. 24' was the first year ratings took a dip from the previous year I do believe.
