Europe's migrant crisis

Ah I'm sure they knew this already - I mean considering I didn't and I'm comfortably sitting at a computer,

Isn't it crazy to imagine they know more about their plight and opportunities than you? I mean, you have a COMPUTER.

The theory is European politicians are calling them migrants and not refugees because if they recognized them as refugees they have to provide them entry per then 1951 Refugee Convention. EU leaders are simply using jargon to avoid accepting refugees.
As for why so many land up in Germany, that's a complex question but understanding the origins and ramifications of the Dublin Protocol should help. Basically, this law made the country into which the asylum seeker first came responsible for them. Because of geography, countries like Greece got screwed and northern European countries got to evade their share of the burden. Germany has taken a more humane approach by extending the middle finger to this bureaucratic mess and allowing these asylum seekers to be processed in Germany regardless of where they came from.

they are really not refugees. its not like they are coming into Hungary from someplace unsafe, like direct from Syria. Rather, they are crossing through other safe countries, sometimes multiple countries, and sometimes even through other other EU countries like Greece, Malta, Italy, and even the ones who get into Hungary are trying to get to Germany. Mostly they are first entering Turkey, which is non-EU, but would be the first safe country under your argument.

Is there a particular piece of this article that you found germane to this thread or Belem's post?
Seems to be a critique on other subjects, which are certainly valid discussions, but having trouble seeing how it fits with this thread.
These people are brown, but they don't pray funny. They have been denied entry, while the administration is now looking at accepting these other refugees.

Thanks for clarifying.

A few things, that article is 13 months old. Since that time efforts to shelter all refugees have increased, Yazidis & Christians included. A week after the publication of that article, the UNHCR greatly stepped up its aid to Yazidi refugees.
Your post seems to infer that other refugees are being accepted while Yazidi and Christian refugees are ignored - I can't find anything to substantiate that.

Also, one should note, if it wasn't obvious from the tone of your article, that it was written by a conservative commentator and former director in the Bush-43 White House - not surprisingly it doesn't present a very balanced set of facts.
