with the new information that the AF didn't enter the shooter into a database as they should have, it very likely would have prevented a # of subsequent steps from happening.

All the technology and laws in the world cannot overcome some basic human error in a process.

Love / hate on guns aside, process wasn't followed and should have been, he likely wouldn't have had such access.

Was thinking that this morning when I read AF failed to report this guy's crimes to the NCIC.
The families of the victims could sue the F-16's out of the DOD.

Buddy of mine used to work as an investigator with the division that is responsible for investigations, research and inputing the data. He says "glad I was gone during this time frame".

They could ring up the DOD on a billion dollar lawsuit, 26 deaths at around $40m each. That doesn't even count the injured.

Now maybe an interesting time to invest in Sutherland Springs real estate.

The tax payers will end up paying the bill. The only impact to the AF will be a black eye and a couple of firings.

The guy was a whacko. He would have gotten a gun regardless. I know, need to fix the reporting problem. On that I agree.

Why are people assuming that if he wasnt legally allowed to obtain a gun he would not have gotten one. There is a law that makes it illegal to kill someone and he ignored that. Its Texas, its not hard to get a gun.

That's conjecture that won't hold up in a courtroom if the families decide to go after the DOD.
