Earlier update
David Coburn, who was tabbed by President Thrasher to be Florida State's interim athletics director, just met with reporters for about 20 minutes, discussing his role and more.
Coburn has been chief of staff for Thrasher and has enjoyed a distinguished career in the public sector, but he's not one who likes a lot of limelight. He prefers to stay in the background. So no video, but I will have a full story coming shortly.
Here are a few highlights:
* He said President Thrasher told him that he could be in this position for months. So as Thrasher told us earlier in the week, this will be a deliberate search -- especially since it will be tough to get current A.D.s to seriously consider a move when they are just starting the fall.
* He was very candid about the relationship between Boosters and the athletics department "deteriorating a little bit," and said he will be working to fix it. He and Andy Miller have been friends since they were FSU students together ... so he sounded very confident he can get everyone on the same page.
* He said the facilities upgrades, which will be announced next week, will go on as planned.
* Said he will be working to not only keep things running, but also evaluating the department to see if any changes need to be made going forward.
* He has already moved in to the Moore Center and is working from there.
* As we've reported before, he said he has worked closely with President Thrasher and President Barron on athletics issues for years. So he's been "immersed" in it.
* He said he does think the structure of Boosters reporting to the president instead of the A.D. will be a concern for some candidates, but he doesn't think it will be a deterrent.
